Good morning,
Today looks to be a rainy day from sun up till sun down so be sure to bring that rain gear and extra set of dry clothes. Temperatures are staying above freezing so we are not expecting any snow today. I was out on Alum Cave trail yesterday and at higher elevations there is still ice on the trail so take caution and bring those traction devices. Last nights low reached 30 degrees and we have only climbed to 37 degrees and not expecting to get much warmer. A rainy day in the clouds causes a quiet day at the lodge but still plenty to get done as crew hurries around head to toe in rain gear.

Good afternoon, First, thank you to all Veterans on this sunny Veterans Day. With our temps creeping up, we are currently at (what feels like a warm) 32 degrees. While our low yesterday was 12, we are enjoying the unthawing that will hopefully begin soon. Continue to bring traction devices as some of the trails continue to have icy areas. Tonight and tomorrow, we should continue to warm up reaching the upper 30s and lower 40s and are expecting some chilly rain showers tomorrow. We hope you have a fantastic sunny day to finish up your weekend where you are and we hope to see you at the top! Below: Crew members Morgan and Jacob hanging out on top of the world!
Good morning all,
441 remains closed this morning as we admire the snow we have at the lodge. The white landscape allows colors to appear from the vibrant sunrise as guests stir around camp. Currently at a chilly 13 degrees, we aren’t expecting much of a warm up today but it’ll be a beautiful one! Remember those traction devices if you plan to head up today as rocks remain slippery if you aren’t careful. US 441 (Newfound Gap Road) has been temporarily closed on account of snow and icy conditions. No timetable for when it will reopen. Temperatures are expected to be significantly cooler tonight through Sunday, although skies should be pleasantly clear.
Guests with reservations will have to utilize Rainbow Falls, Bull Head, or Trillium Gap Trails to access the summit until the road reopens. Traction devices will be good to have for those icy patches along the trails. Good morning,
The grey skies above us are a reminder of what is expected to come tomorrow night.... snow! Throughout the day today, and most of tomorrow, we are expecting rain showers and as the temps drop tomorrow, it should turn into snow. Remember those layers and traction devices! Yesterday, we hit a high of 54 while our overnight low was 39. We did receive a quick drizzle of rain at around 3:00 in the afternoon however, it only lasted about two minutes. I’m sure we will have more rain to report tomorrow morning! Good Afternoon All,
Good afternoon,
After a stormy night we are having a picture perfect day with clear skies all the way to the valley floor. We only dropped to 42 degrees last night. Currently at 48 degrees. No more rain on the forecast for today after receiving 0.9 inches last night. The crew are taking full advantage of such a nice day by hitting the trails and taking in the views. 10:15 AM Update:
US 441 (Newfound Gap Road) is back open. Guests can once again use Alum Cave Trail. Please let us know if you come across any downed trees on the trails reaching the summit. Thank you. —————————————————————————- UPDATE: These previously issued warnings and watches have been lifted. A High Wind Warning remains in effect until 10:00 AM, with gusts of 70 mph possible. The lodge is only reporting light showers and winds not in excess of 30mph this morning. —————————————————————————- A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for our area until 6:00 AM. A Tornado Watch has also been issued until 9:00 AM Tuesday. These winds are serious. Please use caution. US 441 is the only road closed at this time with access to LeConte’s approach trails. If that changes we will let you know as soon as we can. GSMNP will be closing US 441 (Newfound Gap Road) tonight at 7:00 PM in preparation for the Wind Advisory and potential storms forecast for the region. No timetable on when it will reopen.
Cherokee Orchard, Roaring Fork, and Greenbrier will remain open unless a temporary closure is deemed necessary by NPS. We will continue to provide updates as we hear of them. Again, the advisory will last until 10:00 AM Tuesday. Conditions are expected to improve quickly throughout the day. Good afternoon,
