These are the days...
Hello from a sunny Tuesday morning! Yesterday was once again beautiful, but warmer than it has been lately, getting up to 71 degrees in the afternoon. The overnight low was 53 and it was clear and beautiful. This morning we woke up socked in, but the sun has burned through all of the cloud cover and it is shaping up to be another warm, sunny day! Y'all stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay happy!

Oh my, Ruthie, you out did yourself today with that first photo. With beautiful blue skies and those yellow cone flowers it must be just stunning up on top of Leconte! It won't be long until the cool crisp days of September are here. At least for you all!

"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of Autumn." John Muir

I woke around 2:00a this morning to one of the most spectacular lightning displays I've ever seen. It made me wonder if the same awesome spectacle was being seen at the Lodge for up there at that higher elevation you're a bit closer to the fury of multiple horizontal lightning bolts lighting up the sky like a strobe light ! Surely Muir got a lot of his energy from such storms which he faced with only the barest of necessities.

Oh to be on the mountain!!!!

Doug, that has always been a favorite of mine since the first time I heard it. I was taking a class at Tremont many years ago, and one of the other students read that at dinner one evening. Words can really be powerful, when crafted by people like Muir.

Doug, Franklin, another favorite quote of mine is "the mountains are calling and I must go - Muir". Early this year I bought a rough hewn piece with that quote on it and displayed it in a prominent place in my home as a daily reminder of my favorite Mt. Leconte and the surrounding GSMNP area.

Tammy(Tx)-Love that quote you gave by Muir-several years ago when I lost my job in the recession-I took up hiking here in the GSMNP-since I live in Pigeon Forge was able to get there pretty often. I fell in love with hiking Mt Leconte on the Alum Cave Trl, and there would be many a morning when I would get up without a plan, and say to myself-"is there any reason I can think of that I can't hike Mt Leconte today?" And of course I couldn't think of any reason, so off I went. The mountains were truly calling me!

I really wish that you'd quit posting those beautiful photos. ;-) You're making me "homesick" for my favorite place in the Smokies. It's not fair - I'm not due up there until September 8.

Ruthie,
You and the crew continue to amaze me with the different perspectives you continually provide through your daily photo posts. Thanks for looking for those unique shots that provide us with a different view into the lodge area on a daily basis. I look forward every day to seeing what new angle or view will be showcasing one of my favorite places in the Smokies!!!! Awesome!!

Ruthie,is there any chance you could get your employer to have calenders made from those beautiful photos you have made?? I only have a shirt the time I went up 9-11-11 and I say every time we are in P.F.and Gatlinburg I am going to the LeConte store but not sure where it is.I saw where they have a New LeConte Center in Pigeon Forge.Could you tell me what is there etc.??? Thanks.

The "Leconte Center" in Pigeon Forge is a convention center; quite an attractive facility. Someone else should know more about a 'Leconte 'Store' but I think it's an online place to get the Lodge's merchandise.

I would buy some of their merchandise, but not the items that have the incorrect elevation for the lodge itself; I'm just one of the people who thinks it should be the correct figure.
