"Keep the earth below my feet."
Good Monday morning to you all! It has been a cloudy and cool morning so far, only 60 degrees as of yet. Yesterday's high was 73 and the low was 54 and the weather was sunny and blue all day. Today we might have some showers in the afternoon, so be prepared for rain!
Here are a few pictures of the work they have been doing on the Alum Cave trail so far:

Wow! The stairs at Arch Rock are looking very nice! Thanks for the pictures! Thanks to the trail crew! Husband's back in school next week, autumn is just around the corner. I'm already feeling it (in my mind that is, it's 100+ temps here every day)! Can't wait! Have a good day everybody!

Excellent work! As much as I love Arch Rock, I hated the unsteadiness of the steps... and the area just above (shown in the 2nd picture) was also one of the most treacherous on the trail. Thanks for showing us the progress. I can't wait to walk through the arch with our (soon to come) baby in a carrier backpack sometime next year.

Yes, a nice pleasing design and construction of the Arch Rock stairs. It is not enough to stare up the steps; one must step up the stairs ! If I have to go to an upper floor in a building I choose the stairs or the elevator over the escalator because one time I slipped riding an escalator and fell down the stairs for an hour an a half ! G'day all.

Doug y, hilarious comment! You fell down the stairs for an hour and a half. Still smiling over that one. Printed out your comments to show my wife tonite. Thanks for the smiles.

Unless I've missed them, I haven't seen any comments regarding the annual Perseid meteor shower, usually the year's best, on here. There is ample information about this on the internet but I think that the peak times are before dawn on Thursday the 13th and again on Friday the 14th. I'll be watching with nothing but my eyes but I sure would love to be at the Lodge for this ! I live out in the countryside here in east central Kentucky, but light pollution still gives some interference. Estimations I've seen are for 80 - 100 meteors per hour. If you're up there, enjoy and post your comments here ! If it's an alien landing, tell them to wait for me because I want to go with 'em !!

That's pretty funny, Doug (about the escalator), but I imagine it wasn't very funny at the time! Congrats Elktonbrandt on the upcoming birth of your baby!

A tip of the cap to the trail crew for their stair job. As I've gotten older, those old steps coming down thru Arch Rock made me a little nervous with my creaky knees.

Perseid Meteor showers, tonight & tomorrow for peak, I heard, moon will only be 8% tonight, 4% illuminated tomorrow, the 12th! Plenty of wishes to be made on shooting stars! I'll be wishing on a LeConte trip!

I must say looking at the steps, the crew does great work. Don't really think about all the work that needs to be done to maintain the trails we so enjoy. Without their work a few hour casual hike could turn into a major struggle and journey. That and the great work they do to minimize the damage we do and to stabilize this fragile environment we so love.

Mutant llamas from outer space brought the rocks to the site. The llamas train by stepping over DougY over and over on an escalator :-)

That's right elktonbrant ! It's the same way the ancient Egyptians built the pyramids !

One stone at a time, over and over and over. Doug, your humorous side is showing today. I like it.

Thanks. Mainstream scientists say that the ancient Egyptians had only copper hammers and chisels, simple tools; Do they really think that they built the pyramids with these !? Just consider how ol' Jack Huff, and subsequently others who followed him, built Leconte Lodge over the years, isolated up there on that mountain ! That was quite a feat. I'm glad they did.

Cannot wait to climb the steps of Arch rock again on my way to the lodge. With the exception of the crowds, it's my favorite way to the top. Thanks to the trail crews. Doug Y, you are in rare form today. So you do have a comical side. Hope to see the Perseid meteor shower from my mountain top in North Carolina.
