And now back to your regularly(ish) scheduled blog posts....Good morning! Yesterday's high was 63 and the overnight low was 50. Today has been cool and overcast, currently only 58 degrees. No rain yet this morning, but it feels like rain is on the way. Y'all have a pleasant start to the week!

I'm an old guy, but still in fair shape; what is the easiest trail to the lodge? I have had several friend, Joe & Linda Brown, Liza Turner and Terry Staley say you folks are wonderful and they had the best time.

Hi Neal...thought I would put my two cents in on your inquiry. My husband (68) and myself (55) hiked LeConte this past June and did Trillium Gap Trail. It is a well laid out trail and I think you would be able to conquer it. TIP: park in Grotto Falls parking lot and start there to avoid the first section of this trail (about 2.6 miles) that you really do not need to put yourself through. It was a beautiful trail through the woods and if you are lucky and travel same day as the llama pack team you will get a real treat seeing them! Good luck and it is worth every step. The stay up top is second to none and the crew up top get a gold star!!! It is really an amazing adventure.

Hi Neal, I'm 64 and not in very good shape I took the Trillium Gap Trail. Made in good time. That is the only time I've gone. But I came down on the Alum Trail while it is the shortest and was a great trip down. Not sure if I could have made it up that way. I met the Llama train going up and they were coming down. I suggest an early start, I went in October and the parking was terrible. Had to hike a little ways to get to the trial head, think that was steeper than the trail was in some parts. I came off the Alum trail and had a car meet me. Don't plan on cell phones in the valley there is no signal but it was spotty on the top of mountain. As Cathy said it is well worth every step. I hope to return soon.

Neal, the Lodge Manager never answers any questions. Even though their day starts at 5 am & ends around 8-8:30 pm, I'm sure they could find time to answer the important questions (mine). Maybe we should stat a petition demanding that our questions be answered even if it meant ignoring others duties or losing a little sleep. We could even start a collection to hire someone to sit by the computer all day and answer our sometimes dumb questions.

Have hiked to Leconte many times. I feel that Trillium Gap is the easiest trail. Alum Cave is shorter but steepest . It is only open on weekends at this time. You will be fine, take water , snacks and take as many breaks as you need. Hope you enjoy this magical place as much as I do!

This blog is a gift to all who read it and post comments here and one should feel lucky to have it; its not for minor complaints about the crew sometimes not answering questions; don't make the mistake of putting this blog before the more important duties of he lodge crew. reserve your arrogance for some other outlet or site.
