Lovely clouds last night for just a bit.
Fall is in the air! Perhaps I am jumping the gun because fall is my very favorite season, but it just FEELS like an Autumn morning...cool and crisp, around 50 degrees and not a cloud to be seen for miles. This is my kind of Tuesday.
Yesterday's high was 67 and the low fell to an unseasonably cold 37 overnight which made for a chilly morning in the kitchen. Needless to say, the first thing I did this morning was crank up the oven and put the coffee on! Y'all get out and enjoy this delightful weather. Come see us up top!

Today is Jenny B.'s Birthday.
My thoughts are with her family
and dearest Friends.

I like to imagine that Jenny B's spirit remains out there in the Smokies, infusing everything that surrounds her with her wonderful outlook. I regret that I never met her because I wanted to discuss outdoor equipment. Perhaps this old hiker would have learned something from Jenny's experiences and this is a great topic for discussion here on this blog, i.e., old versus new outdoor gear. I addressed it on my own site just this morning. Yes, I will be near the area where Jenny last was and maybe if I sit quietly on some boulder or by some gentle stream, with my best friend, we may hear Jenny calling ! G'day

Put my reservation request in today for 2016. I've never been, but stumbled upon the website and fell in love. Crossing my fingers my dates! Will be driving from Missouri to see your beautiful lodge and those gorgeous views.

A crisp Fall like day here too in Indiana. Always reminds me I don't have much longer before I'll be up on that wondrous mountain the middle of September.

Lori, Sure hope you get your wish. It will be an experience you'll not forget. Good luck to you!

It is a beautiful picture! Kind of reminds me of a painting! A friend reminded me this morning that today was Jenny's birthday. I told them, eventhough she is no longer here physically, she's around here somewhere in spirit!

Ryan in Louisiana, my brother is also an oil field construction supervisor in south Texas. I wish he could experience the "fix" this blog and seeing the Smokies through the crews' eyes provide us with everyday! Yesterday was his bday. He was too busy to talk for just a moment and said he hadn't even thought of it being his bday! :(

Carolyn, Thanks for thinking of me. We spent nearly a month and went to Germany (where my daughter and husband are stationed), Paris for a day, Normandi for 2 days, Berlin for 2 days, and lastly Ireland for 7 totally awesome days. My favorite of all places I've been. So lush and green and there were mountains and rocks and streams that reminded me of the Smokies which was an unexpected treat. Was good to get home though and I sure gave my new knees a workout to prepare them for LeConte. Only 18 more days!! Yea!

I was there today. Solo hiked first time ever. My son and his girl actually went up to Grotto Falls with me and then I continued on my day hike up Trillium. Got to meet Matthew who was running the store. VERY nice kid. Beautiful day. Then to top it off after I went to the NOC store and chatted with John who used to work there and is also from Michigan. Just a all around great day.

Speaking of feeling like fall. I can tell it is close the Canadian Geese are beginning to flock. It is always a big part of fall and spring for me to hear the Geese honking as they pass over head on their way to or from wherever they go.

David: I have those geese around here, too. The two that have 4-7 goslings every spring aren't so bad, but when 20 - 30 or more of them come gliding in like some bomber squadron it can get rather messy ! But as you wrote, it's a sign of spring and fall.

Hi Doug We have a lake where I work and the Geese tend to love to leave landmines on the sidewalk. They can get aggressive and we have signs up not to feed or bother them. Our office in Florida have Alligators in their lake. I think I'll stick with the Geese.

Wow that's cold!!! May I ask when fall is going to be?
