Banner Day

8/24/2012

Picture
We were treated to an amazing sunset last night. The low was 45 with a high of 65. Today is looking like another banner day up top. Blue skies and a cool breeze will greet you as you  make your way to the summit. It is going to be a great day for a hike.

Absolutely beautiful! I would love to be able to take a hike up today. However, school is back in session and we're 8 hours away. Hopefully soon! Have a blessed day everyone!

Here is the repost pn the runaway llama:

Repost from David Howard:

Lost Llama! A trainee pack llama with the string that supplies LeConte Lodge was spooked by a bear and ran off on Monday 8/20. He was last seen off Roaring Fork Rd near Overlook #3 pullover(just before Grotto Falls) where he ran down a steep embankment. Toxic rhododendron is found in that are
a and if he eats it, he may become severely ill or die, though some llamas learn to avoid these plants. He
is wearing a halter and lead and is fairly friendly so if you see him, catch him if possible. He will not spit at you!

The Park rangers are aware of this and have done a small search, along with the LeConte Staff. They ask that no-one go OFF TRAIL to search, due to rattlesnakes and bear activity. If you can find time, PLEASE go and hike the trails in that area...Baskins Creek, Grotto Falls, Rainbow Falls, Grapeyard Ridge, Old Sugarlands, Cherokee Orchard Rd, are all good choices.

Another Llama has been lost in the mountains in the past, and was found by an Indian tracker 2 weeks later! He managed to steer clear of the Rhododendron and bears; he hooked up with a herd of deer! So all hope is not lost for this llama, whose name is "Porter".

If you spot or capture him, contact park personnel and Sandy Sgrillo at 865-428-6042.

Porter has been located. The llama wrangler caught him and he is going to a farm where he will not have to worry about seeing any bears. His days on the pack train are done.
