Beautiful day for laundry!

5/8/2015

Picture
Hello down there!  We are having another beautiful day on the mountain. The crew is doing some much needed laundry and making day runs. The word on the trail is the valley is reaching all the way up into the 90's.  One more reason, I'm happy to be on the mountain.  Yesterday's high reached 59, and the low dropped to 42 degrees.  We received .30 inches of rain from a passing thunderstorm.  The weather folks are calling for chances of storms today so if ya'll are planning a day hike, please have proper gear.  It is currently 60 degrees and we are under partly cloudy skies.  Peace.

Any of the laundry ever go missing? I seem to remember seeing a yearling bear adorned in an attractive LeConte Lodge t-shirt, a couple of years ago, a short ways down the Bullhead trail.

Kent, that may have been the same bear that I encountered on the Trillium trail around that same time period ! He followed me nearly all the way down the trail ! I think he was perhaps intoxicated on fermented blackberries !

Norman, Tammy, and anyone else who might visit my site, I am going to try to post a different photo there from my recent trip up to the Lodge every day or so, but I claim no expertise as a photographer; I have a hard enough time getting the photos on there, for the time being. g'day

Thanks Doug y! Really, I'm not kidding about the flip flops! They are more comfortable than shoes to me. I've been having the same problem you did with toes cramming into front of my hiking shoes while coming back down a trail. I want to get a good pair but don't know what brands are best. I know this has nothing to do with Leconte, but has anyone hiked up to Gregory's Bald? Ranger Mike talks about this hike every year and I might like to try it some day.

Doug it is so good seeing you on High on LeConte again.I have been missing you.Since you have your own web-site I don't see you much any more.I was wondering if it would be possible to have access to your web site to read about all your doings these days.I am sure you have gone to Wonderland Hotel but if you haven't please go because it is almost as great as High on LeConte. Not only does it show you the beginning of the Hotel and Elkmont then and now but carries you to all the wonderful things to see and do while in the Natl.Park.It would take days to see all of it.We were there 4-24-5-1 and hiked Elkmont but could never find the road to the Hotel. We talked to a couple from Ga.and he said, the fountain is still in front of the hotel and one of the bldgs.have been restored for meetings and weddings but we never found it!!!

CBoone, if you go to the NPS(GRSM) website, there you will find information and shorts videos of the Spence cabin and Appalachian Clubhouse. Both have been restored and available for day use rental. Just thought you might be interested. J LeClair, thanks for the suggestion of cotton balls! I will have to try that.
