Beautiful Day for Saying Thanks

11/25/2013

Picture
It was a slow afternoon around the mountain. Thank goodness, because we were all in a tryptophan daze. The weather was cold but nice. The high was 27º and the low was 3º. It got warmer as the night went on. This morning it is currently 30º. The buzz around the mountain is "how much snow are we going to be hiking down in?" There is a big storm heading our way and it sounds as though we might get one last blizzard before we put our favorite lodge to bed for the winter. You may get some good snow pictures after all.

Beautiful turkey! Looks sooooo good!

So, I had to look up the word "trytophan" as I'm not so much of the wide vocabulary type. I found in The Grolier International Dictionary the word "trytophan" means "An amino acid. [chemical formula] C11H12N2O2 that is produced in the digestive process, and is essential in human nutrition." So I'll take it that the dinner served provided all the goodies needed for essential human nutrition, and then some for sure!

So to all the crew, thank you so much for your interesting daily comments and photos. Will certainly miss you. Travel safely, and may God be with you all. Happy Thanksgiving!

That's right. It's as I wrote it above, but wasn't able to properly type in the 'subscript' numbers;

Allyson,
I look so foward to your comments each day. I live in New Orleans, La. Made my first trip up the mountain last June a year ago. It was wonderful. Hope to do it again. It was on my bucket list to do. Have a great winter off the mountain. Look foward to you next summer.

I have been blessed to climb the mountain a few times, we stayed in the cabins twice, once by a last minute cancelation by someone (yeah for us) then we stayed in the bear den, scary because of no cage protection. My question is, after the season is over and the lodge is nestled in for the cold blustery months how many people stand guard on the mountain? And what are their duties around LeConte?

It just takes one JP to take care of the mountain.

Thank you so much for the beautiful pictures and wonderful blogs from Mt. LeConte. My husband and I look forward to reading your daily blogs. Hiking to Mt. LeConte is our favorite yearly hike. Last June we hiked (day hikes) it 3 different ways! May you enjoy your break and we will be back in June.

Cant wait for Thursday seeing all that good food you prepared! Yum. When do you all hike down - Wednesday? Can you taste Hawaii yet? We stayed on Kauai about 10 yrs ago in a little cement hut with a knee high stove top and an open to the sky shower. It cost $26/night. Beautiful little island! Have a wonderful time all who are going and a great time wherever the rest of you go. Thanks for the memories!

I have just started following your daily post for about a week now due to the "Heartland" series with Bill Landry. I live in Parrottsville, TN not too far from Mt Leconte. I really like your weather reports and the other information you share. I am 67 and may get up the courage to hike to your lodge one day. I will continue to follow your post when you begin a new season. May God bless your service as you show us His handiwork where you live and work each day!!!
