Beautiful Day From Cliff Top

6/12/2013

Picture
Chris took this picture from Cliff Top, yesterday. The day  cleared up nicely and was the warmest one this season. We hit 66º with a low of 50º. It is now starting to feel like summer on the mountain. The mornings are still chilly. We are currently socked in again. I believe the forecast is calling for rain for the next couple of days. I guess it will be good days to get caught up on indoor chores.

The mountains are calling me. Sometimes they shout with pictures like this. I'll be there in less than two weeks.

Gulf Coast Doug,
I understand when you say "the mountain is calling (you)." We're headed to the lodge next Tuesday for a two night stay. Here's wishing you a safe journey. Happy Trails...

Morning All, I can see myself now on Cliff top, just finished with breakfast at the lodge. I am starting the second chapter of a good book and laying on one of those rocks that have just the right angle up there. Nice cool breeze and my honey by my side. Then all of a sudden I am awaken by something, it's called reality and I find myself at the mouth of the Mississippi River in 95% humidity and 90 degrees. Have a great day up there.

13 Days till I get to see this! I told my Fiance' last night that I was finding it hard to fall asleep. When he asked why, I said "Because we are getting closer to Christmas". Hiking LeConte is better than Christmas to me and I am already too Excited! I can't wait to become his wife with this as our backdrop!

Jennifer,
Congratulations! Sounds like this will be a trip filled with "mountains" of memories. Enjoy!

The photo makes my legs quake to be on a trail going up!!! We are headed up to Blue Ridge Georgia on Tuesday so I'll get a good dose of some mountains. Maybe that will cure me until my next Leconte visit.
Happy trails to all you lucky people soon headed up to Leconte!!!!

One month and I will revisit again! Counting the days! The mountains truly do call those of us lucky enough to listen carefully :-)

Beautiful pic! My night at the Lodge is about three weeks past, but the memory of sunset, and biscuits, and wine & laughter by lamplight still remains. Would love to be there again, but it's a long drive, so I will listen to the call of my nearer mountains -- the Berkshires, the Greens and the Whites -- a go to them instead for now. (And I DO love them, too.) Enjoy, all of you who are going up Leconte soon. Someday...

Today the heat arrived here in central KY with a vengance; my outside thermometer reached 94F and it felt like somewhat more than that. Sure would hve been a good day to be up on the mountain at the lodge, or at least somewhere in the Park. All the comments about how the "mountains call" were good to read; it is often difficult to explain in any words how mountains really do call to me, but I know that I'm not the only one who experiences such feelings ! It is a deep psychological "connection", a spiritual one if you prefer. I believe it's a primitive emotion passed down to us from unknown and distant ancestors. I have got to find a place to buy in or near Gatlinburg, if only just a small cabin or house. Good evening all.

Had a good hike up Alum today. Unfortunately, the fog /clouds didn't start lifting until after I headed back down. Still a good day to visit the magical mountain.
