We have another beautiful day high on top! Last night was very cold, 18, and during the day didn't get much warmer, 24. However, today the sun is shining and getting much more moderate. Trying not to be redundant, I've selected a sunset and sunrise photo to share with you. Notice: There is still much snow and lots of ice! Most slush will re-freeze overnight. Please be prepared when hike up the next few days. Believe it or not but this is a completely unedited photo! Taken at sunset My first glimpse of light this morning

Although they are both beautiful photos, that sunset photo is outstanding! You and Allyson both have good instincts with respect to photography.

Great pics. A picture of Dome Falls there below the lodge would be a change from the norm.

If the government shuts down, does the park shut down? If the park shuts down, does the lodge shut down?

Justin, there was an answer to that question on yesterdays post, or at least a number to call to get an answer.

The pictures posted by the LeConte Staff are outstanding, but Leconte Mountain and the entire area (Smoky Mountains) are superior vistas. Each trip presents something different and a picture is not an adequate subdstitue for being in a exact spot at an exact time. I did not discover the true meaning of the mountain history until retirement in 2008 and regret what I missed during my work career. National Parks are our true treasures. Go LeConte staff.

Justin- The AP reporting today all 394 National Parks and Monuments would close, idling 20,000 NPS employees. The shutdown also includes park concessions, like LeConte Lodge, according to the report.
