Behind The Scenes

A frequent question is how do I charge my laptop. I thought I would share our solar information with you. The lodge has four sets of solar panels to run different items on the mountain. We have a solar system set up in our wood shed that runs any power tools we may need during building projects. We have a solar panel that runs our water pump. There is a panel that charges batteries to operate our incinerator, which burns our trash. We have a set of panels that charge batteries that charges other items such as our cell phone, meat slicer, and my laptop. We depend on the sun to bring us our electricity. It is a great system. Due to mother nature, we do have to watch our intake. As most of you know, LeConte gets quite a bit of cloud coverage. For the most part, it provides us with a enough power to take care of day to day operations.

What a neat system. Times sure have changed over the years.

Speaking of cellphones.....where do you get reception up there? When we are up on top, we only get reception on the far end of the lodge porch and then that is only hit and miss.

Deborah,
U.S. Cellular gets the best coverage up top. Verizon being next. You can get coverage any where in camp with those two. Other carriers don't get as good a connection.
