Biscuits are waiting to be put in oven for breakfast. Sun is on the rise. Life as usual at the lodge. We still do not have snow. I can feel it coming. The skies are starting to have that "look". The high yesterday was 52 with the low of 36. The snow boots are dusted off and ready for some action. Hopefully tomorrow's picture will be a winter wonderland, or a dusting of one.

One of our favorite parts of staying at the lodge is always having supper and breakfast at the dining hall. The meals are delicious and the company has always been great! So looking forward to our next trip!

I loved being served meals and not having to plan the meal shop for the food cook it or clean up....it is better than any 4 star resort!

Our paper this morning suggests we might have some "snow" on Wed but the sun is shining right now. I missed my trip in September due to a heart attack in July and had to give up my spots to my sister and daughter. Your picture this morning makes me miss it so much more. I'm already planning my trails up and down for Sept. 2013! Anticipation...anticipation..anticipation. Til real time on LeConte I'll keep perusing your pics and blog. Some of the models are giving Leconte 1-2 feet of snow over the next 3 days. Stay warm and safe up there. I thought about going up there on Tuesday but if there's a chance of over a foot I won't endanger my life by going up there.

I just returned from a quick trip to the Smokies where I took a nice 15-mi day hike iin the Elkmont area and the air sure felt like snow was coming, sooner or later; I didn't have any biscuits today and seeing yours reminded me of how much I love the breakfasts at the lodge ! During my hike this morning I tried one of those new(er) MRE's our soldiers eat when on the battlefields. It was a hot meal and adequate, but nothing I'd want to exist on for long. Perhaps the 1 - 2 feet of snow on the mountain will happen. Hope anyone hiking in it will take extra measures of preparation and caution. G'day.

I thought about a hike up, but it seems leconte is about to get nailed with a snow that could eclipse 2 feet so for the time being i will as i will have some snow to deal with myself here in the cumberland mountains but i think it is only supposed to get 6 inches or so here in my spot here in kentucky 10/28/2012 01:41:14 pm

Allyson, I was wondering what happens for the guests who come up today in the event there is a significant snowfall tonight, specifically those who might come up Alum. If there is a road closure, do they usually go down another trail and then try to figure out how to get their car? Or has there ever been enough snow that it hasn't been safe for someone to try to come off the mountain? I've been on Alum with snow before, but only after the trail has been well broken. I sure wouldn't want to be the first to try to make it down with 12" or more along the edges of Cliff Top.
