We had five deer in camp yesterday morning. They were enjoying a breakfast of grass and cone flowers. This cool weather has made for some amazing days. I hiked down Alum a little ways to enjoy the purple gentian. I think every crew member was out and roaming the mountain enjoying these incredible days. The high yesterday was 59 with a low of 41.

Wow, that is almost the exact same sight that greeted me as I arrived at work at my local nature center Monday. Except that I was in the flatlands of central Illinois rather than atop my favorite mountain!

I agree....Mt. LeConte is my favorite place to be! I was just at the Nature Center in Peoria, IL hiking this past weekend. Just doesn't compare to the Smoky's!

My last first day of school today!! I will continue to share the pics with my students. I moved from 3rd to 4th grade and have the same students so they are expecting to see the pics and they too enjoy them. Thanks!

We stayed Monday night and saw three of the deer just before getting to the lodge after enjoying a beautiful sunrise at Myrtle Point. I was amazed at how they just stood still so close to us eating their breakfast while I took some good pictures. Our own breakfast was mere minutes away so we left them for the call of eggs, pancakes, ham and grits!

The deer look very healthy! Plenty of greens and lots of water. They will miss these abundant days in a few months!

That looks like a photo out of National Geographic. Lighting, composure, timing... perfect!
