Super excited to watch the Orionid meteor shower this weekend. The forecast looks as though it is going to be cold but clear. Who knows, maybe the northern lights will make an appearance as well. I hope the leaves are hanging on in the lower elevations. We have had some blustery winds over the past day.
I know this is going to be a busy weekend in the Sevier county areas. I am sure there are a lot of Alabama fans making their way for the game. Being a UT alum, I just have say "Go Vols". I usually don't add my two cents about sports, but having spent the better part of my early twenties roaming the UT campus, I felt compelled to add it today. I am sure I will hear from all of my Alabama relatives for posting this. Now, on to the weather report. The high yesterday was 53 with a low of 32. The forecast for the weekend is looking great. It will be a great time to hit the trails and look at the leaves before they make their way to the forest floor.
Looks like your going to have a great weekend.

Just like any other store, thrift stores often have sales and clearances. They sell clearance items at a reduced price and typically keep them separate from other items. Look for sales and clearances on items that are out of season. 6/4/2013 07:45:41 pm

Bluetooth speakers are the latest innovation in wireless sound technology. While this technology is still in its nascent stages, it has already shown a lot of promise.

I've done a lot of hiking in the Smokies and I guess it's unusual perhaps that I've never stayed at Leconte Lodge; I suppose I was just never interested in doing that. Since a friend introduced me to this site a few weeks ago I've really gotten curious about the place and have posted comments a time or two. Seems that one comment I made bothered one or two people, but no negativity was ever intended on my part as I was just making a remark about a fact. Anyway, the other day I hiked up the Rainbow Falls trail and walked around the lodge area for a few minutes and found it to be very interesting and quaint. I returned back down along the Trillium Gap trail, then went off along the Brushy Mountain segment where I was picked up. Hadn't been on the Brushy for a few years. I was wondering about how one goes about getting a reservation at the lodge, having heard that it requires doing that a year in advance. Since I have no reservations for next year it looks like I'll have to wait until next years' cycle. A ranger at the visitors' center said that sometimes you can call and find a cancellation, if you're lucky. I met one couple who told me they come every year at the same time so I guess they're really lucky in being able to do that. I got the office number and will call them to learn more. I'm looking forward to coming up one of these days. Thanks to my friend for telling me about this site.

Hey Tillman, you can email in from the leconte lodge website and be put on a wait list. I have gotten in on cancellations in the past. You should have no problem if you can be flexible and go on short notice. Happy hiking and if I said anything to offend, please accept my apology.

Thanks Brian. When I first came to this site I was primarily interested in learning more about the lodge. I cannot really understand why I never got interested in the place until recently, but I guess it was that hiking and backpacking was all I was interested in, but now, I think a stay at the lodge would be quite enjoyable. I have always been interested in maps, place names, and topographical details and would never intend anythng negative. I certainly will get on a waiting list or two, etc., and hopefully next year will be able to come up some. I hope to meet a lot of the folks whose comments I read here. By the way, my friend lives in Kentucky and he's a fanatic about sports, which I am not. He's such a Kentucky fan that when he comes to the Smokies he detours all the way around through Virginina and down through North Carolina, coming into the Park from the south in order to avoid going through Tennessee !!! Personally, I attended a lot of Vols games back in the day and I hope they get their football program back to tis glory days. Otherwise, I don;t even watch a lot of sports on the tube. Have a great day.
