Christmas Gift Ideas for the LeConte Lover

11/20/2013

Today's post is going to be a little different. I just wanted to remind everyone about our online store. If you have a family member who loves Mt. LeConte, we have some great options for Christmas gifts. Don't worry, you don't have to hike five miles to do your Christmas shopping. We will mail it to you. While you're at it, throw a pair of our toasty flannel pants into the cart for your Christmas morning outfit. I bought a pair and they are awesome. We have everything from fleece jackets and vests to a really nice jacket that is wind proof and water resistant. I actually own the jacket and have used it for hiking. I will say that I am a fan. Don't forget the groovy tie dye LeConte shirt that you can not purchase at the lodge. You can buy one to wear while your "I hiked it" shirt is being washed.

As for lodge news, we are starting with a sunny morning. It is still cold up here. The low was 20º with a high of 39º. The weather forecast is calling for snow this weekend. We could have a white ending to the season.

I have one request. I would love to hear from you about what you  would like to see in our store. This includes our online store and our store at the lodge. We are looking for ideas and would love to hear yours.

I surely wish I had purchased a LONG sleeve "I hiked it" t shirt when I was there a few weeks ago... I bought a short sleeve and meant to go back to the office and get a long sleeve one too when I saw a girl in the dining room wearing one....

Ideas....maybe a collection of some of the best photos taken of sunrises, sunsets, local critters, views, group photos, copies of your dinner menus (not sure if you actually have menus. Just a few thoughts.

I wish I would've gotten a long sleeve & a hoodie of I hiked it this year! Really wish we could hike back up before season ends!
We passed a hiker one year with an I hiked it shirt with a Llama on tshirt! More llama tees would be awesome! I want one!

We only had room for our two, "I hiked it" t-shirts this year. While I like the t-shirt, I wish the 'I hiked it' had been in much bigger print. It's almost like an afterthought - LeConte Lodge, oh yeah, I hiked it, lol. Next year we are making sure we have more room in our packs for souvenirs.
I don't know if it was available this year, but I'd love an, "I hiked it" coffee mug and/or travel mug. An, "I hiked it" ball cap is something else I'd purchase. I like Rachel's idea of the Llamas being featured on a t-shirt.
I'm married to a jeweler, so I always think in jewelry terms. A commemorative, collectible charm/pendant that changed each year would be cool. The staff could design it and we could make it. It could be made in sterling silver and therefore affordable. Feel free to contact me if it's something you'd like to explore.
Can't wait for our 2nd annual stay next year.

The 2004 lodge t-shirt featured a llama, "Sparky", on its front side.

I would love a mug (that I could order and not bring down in a pack!)

Socks that say I hiked it (be they regular socks or hiking socks) and maybe a sock hat that says I hiked it would be nice. I've got a Smoky Mountain sock hat but would love one with Leconte on it. Love some of the other ideas people have come up with.

Love my LeConte duds and in fact I was in NYC yesterday wearing my hat and sweatshirt. We stopped by the Today Show and were in several crowd shots sporting the coolest attire there. Did anyone see me? :o)
Future items on my wish list...
-Photos and/or a calendar. I thought these were coming. Maybe on Allyson's site?
-Wicking t-shirts (s/s and l/s) that have more than the logo on the front chest. I only wear wicking t's when hiking and would love to show off the lodge. It can be a connecting point or topic of conversation with other hikers.
-I like the llama idea. What about stuffed llama's with the logo on a pack attached to the llama. May be an item for the online store, having room in the pack for a stuffed animal would be hard.

I know you sell flashlights at the Lodge, but what about a high quality headlamp? I often wonder hows many day hikers show up too late to make it down before dark.

Hi Allyson and crew, how about plastic wine glasses with Leconte,I hiked it and year on them, you could use it at dinner and at cliff tops for those special sunsets, then take them home, what do you think !!!

Glenn OH, I love that idea!

I'll second that idea. Excellent thought.

I third that one

This is exciting we have a chance to give our input. Thank you. Here goes:
I bought the men's orange wicking shirt this year in a men's small and its just way to big. I would love a wicking ladies shirt. The ones they sell at Walmart. The Danskin brand with a V-neck fit great. Love the bright colors when hiking. I always say if I fall off the mountain, you'll be able to spot me better.lol
My husband likes the hoodies and wears his all the time. But I would like to see a zip up with a hood on it. I like the one the girl has on in the picture, but only with a hood. Colors: Burgandy,a light purple, neon pink(I bet that would be a great seller color), black, burnt orange.
I would also like to see some girl or women's style t shirts. I always buy a t shirt every year, but never wear it because its not very fitting. I like things to form fit and show the curves.
My 1st t shirt was the 2009 one with the map on the back. 75th anniversary one. I'd love for that one to come back. A little something on the front and big something on the back. Black, Orange, Pink, Purple (got to match the boots), off white.
Wicking hiker socks would be great too.
Thanks for letting me have my say. Hope to see them up there next year.

I agree with the ladies wicking shirt thing. Hate when everything is "unisex" because its really a mans fit

Hey guys I noticed your blog says snow for the weekend. I looked on mountain Forecast.com and regular weather.com and had different results. I've observed significant discrepancies between mountain forecast.com and actual conditions. Do you all have a more reliable mountain forecasting tool for weather? Thanks and I love the blog!

Don't know if anyone else out there is a Tervis Tumbler fanatic, but I would love to see a LeConte Lodge Tervis tumblers or Tervis tumbler water bottles either at the lodge or to buy online. Anyone else agree?

Shari
11/20/2013 05:43:14 am

Love this idea!

Karen

A calendar of the best of the photos here would be awesome... more women's fit shirts/wicking shirts for my wife... dated wine glasses would be great as well!

Shari
11/20/2013 05:44:31 am

A calendar of some of Alyson's awesome photos would be wonderful!

Annie

How about an 'I Hiked it" Decal for your vehicle with having the only way to get it is to hike it!

Amy
11/22/2013 12:35:20 am

Great idea!

Brian

I would like to see more hats to buy. Something better than the old plain one on the site.

Paul
11/20/2013 09:10:58 am

Here's a suggestion that would go along with all the interest in photos:
Suitablefor framing prints of some of those great old pictures, like Jack Huff carrying his mom in the chair strapped to his back, the first horse on top, or Cumberland Jack. I'd love to have some nice prints of those in our cabin

If the young lady in the bottom picture comes with that jacket, I will take one!

Fleece Headband Ear Gear with Leconte Lodge or I Hiked Leconte Logo.

11/20/2013 10:28:31 am

I agree with missy. Some type of jewelry. My mother loves charms and I would love to see a small good charm with maybe a picture of the main lodge abd mountains in the background? she loves Leconte and the smokies so much that my dad and her git new wing bands with mountain scenery on them!

Tervis would be a hit!

A calendar with pics from Leconte (mountain views, critters, sunrises, sunsets, spring flowers, snow, view from Myrtle Point, and Cliff Tops, etc) that coordinate with each month and season. Christmas ornaments

Like Fred's idea, Melissa, yours is one of the best suggested here !

My husband and I were up at the end of July this year (our first trip) and both bought wicking t-shirts. Mine was way too big as Debi said above, so I donated it as part of a gift basket for a charity fund raiser. I would really love to have a "hiked it" t-shirt as a souvenir of this wonderful trip. I there any way to get one sent down? I will gladly wait till the end of season if that helps, since it's just for me. I don't even really care if it's short sleeve or long; whatever you have left after the season. Hope very much to return next summer!

Fred

One thing you might consider for the online store would be high resolution digital downloads of some of the pictures you all take at Leconte. Allison has some beautiful sun rises and sun sets. And some of the images taken by the winter caretakers show a side of Leconte most of us never get to see.

jack
11/21/2013 12:04:10 am

Fred: Best idea yet ! There's only so many times I want to see the name of the lodge on something -- but, maybe I could have it tattooed across my chest !!

Love the online store and the cozy flannels! Great idea to add more items, and a calendar is a great start.

JustADude
11/20/2013 11:44:51 pm

How about all REI gear with option for LeConte Logo? What about LeConte taffy? LeConte Moon Shine? LeConte Golf Balls?

JustADude
11/20/2013 11:48:51 pm

Okay...maybe not the golf balls...maybe a whistle or compass instead?

Kent
11/21/2013 01:58:47 am

Heh! Love the moonshine idea. But I'm afraid that might lead to an awful lot of folks having more than a little difficulty locating their cabins after dark.

JustADude
11/21/2013 03:12:31 pm

Litigious nature of some folks being what it is now days that is probably a good call...maybe some of those yummy no bake cookies? Delicious!!!

jack
11/21/2013 12:08:29 am

All the ideas presented here in the last few days are all with some level of merit. However, isn't this getting to elevating the lodge and the lodge experiences to a high commercial level !? Do not forget what the lodge is truly there for.

I love the wine glass idea and the calendar. I always purchase a calendar from the Gift shop at the visitor center. The pictures are beautiful. I know these pictures that yall take at the Lodge would be. Love these ideas. I have the llama shirt. I love all my shirts but agree the shirts are somewhat big for my frame. I would love to see ladies sizing also.

Amy
11/22/2013 12:39:23 am

I agree with several ideas above . . . particular "women's" sized shirts and something with the llamas. So many kids hike with their parents that I think llamas would sell really well (small stuffed ones, maybe a tiny stuffed one on a keychain). Also, the idea of a calendar specifically with LeConte pictures through the various seasons sounds like a winner. Thanks for allowing us to input!

Barbara
11/23/2013 03:37:51 pm

I would like to see a coffee table type book with Allyson's beautiful pictures The book could include some stories about the people who liked it. i.e.Gracie, Ed Wright and others that have added to the lore over the years.

Bonnie
12/8/2013 08:41:26 am

This year I purchased a wicking t-shirt and a camelbak bottle. I use the bottle every day and wear the wicking t-shirt often.
I love the idea of a ladies wicking t-shirt. I'd also love to see an "I hiked it" wicking tee.
I also like the LeConte wine glass idea.
