Cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning

3/14/2015

Another misty day on the mountain today. Yesterday's high was 42 with a low of 33. Still patches of ice on the trails higher up, but they are easy to navigate, just watch your step if your up today!

Camp, however, has no ice but plenty of mud! We have been hard at work all day cleaning, fixing, shaking and grooving- with the weather on the warmer side for March, we'll take mud over snow and ice any day of the week!

Way to go crew--getting the lodge all spruced up for the hikers! Welcome, welcome new management and all crew--new--and those returning--can't blame you for coming back--it's going to be a fine year! I agree that the "vibe" is very refreshing!!

my wife and I are coming down in a couple of weeks. Both in good shape, could we do a "up and back" in a day? And if so which trail would be the best? Thanks

Kevin, I usually hike 2-3 times a week for about 13-15 miles with some good hills where we live. I've done Alum Cave trail up and down twice with no problem as long as you leave early enough. We are late 40s so it takes us about 3.5 hrs to make it up with a short stop at Alum Cave Bluff, which is not quite halfway. Hardest part for me is what some of the workers call "monotony ridge" Seems to go uphill forever to me so it is appropriately names. I consider myself in good shape and it takes effort to get to the top. If you are 20ish and in good shape, your trip will be easier than mine. Good luck and be careful and enjoy the top. Well worth the climb!

I too am in my 40s but I run, ride a bike and hunt a lot! I dont think that would be a problem but not sure my wife is up for that! May have to go it alone, thanks so much for the info!

You can definitely hike it in a day as long as you're in average health. Start as early as possible and bring plenty of snacks.

Hey Ruthie do you have a picture of the 2015 shirt design?

I don't have a picture yet, but as soon as they arrive on either Monday or Tuesday (weather permitting!) I'll snap a picture and post it! I will tell you that I've seen it and I think that everyone is really going to love the design this year!
