Colorful Mountain Top

6/19/2012

Picture
The sun has returned to the mountain top. The catawba rhododendron is in full glory on the top of the mountain. The blackberry bushes are starting to bud and the coneflowers are coming along nicely. It won't be long until the mountain is in full bloom again. I am predicting it will be around the first or second week in July. Everything seems to be a couple of weeks ahead of schedule this year. The lows are in the mid 40s with a high yesterday of 64. It is still a little chilly for June. I am ready for some temperatures in the mid 70s. I know it is only a matter of time.

Some one was asking about the traffic we get on the blog. We average around 4500 to 5000 hits a day, with about 500 hits being repeats through out the day. We joke that our readership spikes when we get a good snowfall. I know if I get snow in October I will see about 14000 hits for that day. People love to see pictures of the white stuff. I don't blame them. I love taking pictures of it as well.

Time to go enjoy this sun while it is gracing us with its presence. I hope everyone is having a fantastic summer.

I am one of those people that visit here multiple times/day and can't get enough of hearing about Leconte stuff. We were just up in the area last week for a family reunion, stayed in Wears Valley and didn't do any serious hiking; but I was able to get my Smokies fix until Sept., when we will be seeing you guys up top! Can't wait!

Love the picture, beautiful! I am so bless to live close enough that I can hike up when I want. Can't think of ever living anywhere else.

I am so ready to come back. Wife tells me to chill out that it has only been 10 days since I spent the night up top. Allyson, could you email me? I have a pic I would love to send you.

We have reservations in July and can't wait! This past week we camped down at Gulf Shores and I was ready to leave and head for the mountains. I love the beach but there is something special about the Smokies. See you all soon!

That picture made me gasp my breath! Absolutely beautiful!!...especially with sunshine highlights~
Thank you for sharing the flowers of the mountain with us. Much, much prettier than the view of city buildings out my office window.

I try to visit the site at least once a day to following along with the happenings and the photos. I have never hiked up the mountain but I've been coming to park since I was around 9 or 10. I'm 33 now. I used to come with grandparents and then with other family. Something has always drawn me to LeConte every since my first trip. There's something very special about it and one day I hope to make the hike up. Great site and great pics!

Well I had to work in Nashville Tuesday late afternoon but I still came over Monday night and hiked up and down Tuesday morning.

While I couldn't spend anytime up top I feel a little LeConte is better than none at all.
