Wow, there is a valley below. I was beginning to wonder. The clouds seem to be thinning out. It could be a beautiful day up top. The sun teased us for about 15 minutes yesterday, then it rained the rest of the day. The high yesterday was 60º with a low of 51º. We are trying to keep our spirits up around here. We are hurting for power so my "happy light" gets sacrificed. That does not help the attitude. I am sure the crew would peddle a bike to generate power for me to have my "happy light". I am visioning a Gilligan's Island episode. I will be fine in a few hours. Chris and I are heading off the mountain for a few days. We are going to spend some time with our nieces and nephews. There is a trip to Dollywood and a rafting trip in our future. Should be a fun filled week. I know there will be a smile on my face when I watch Chris ride the Wild Eagle roller coaster.

When I logged on earlier and didn't see a post for today I assumed it was a solar power problem. With all the rain lately I've had the same difficulty, but I use my small panel only for my Amateur ("Ham") Radio communications so I don't miss it a lot when it's not fully available. The sky is cloudy again today here with a light mist falling, so there'll be no mowing for a day or two, which is fine with me. I was glad to hear about the Park Service expanding the parking capacity for the Alum Cave trailhead, although I tend to take Rainbow or, more preferably, Trillium these days. Parking at the Alum lot can be problematic sometimes. I know the mountain in the background of your photo today, and I should know which cabin I'm looking at, but for some reason I'm having trouble identifying it exactly. Any photo I see of the lodge area just makes me yearn to be up there more often. I mailed in my reservation requests for next year this morning so by November I'll see how lucky or not I am. I spent three days in Gatlinburg this past weekend and managed to get only a couple of very short day hikes nearby. I love staying at the old Gatlinburg Inn and have for many years when I'm not in the Park hiking. But sitting there on the Inn's porch enjoying a rocking chair I'm always gazing up at Mt. Leconte and wanting to be up there ! From the Cliff Tops vantage point I have seen the top of the "Space Needle" observation tower, but from the Inn I cannot spot much of the mountain top. {By the way, I doubt I'll ever go back up in that 'tower' as on my last trip up I saw a lot of rust on its support beams ! hmmmmmm !} I hope Chris survives his roller coaster ride; the last one I rode was the "Kracken" at Sea World in Orlando, and that will be my last one I think. Have a good day all, and remember, "No matter where you go, there you are !" G'day

Yeah, Mr. Sunshine! No doubt the crew enjoys any little bit of sun that graces the mountain. Enjoy your days off with those little ones, and good luck keeping Chris under control.

Any idea what the past record is for summer rainfall there? Seems like it should be a new record this year. Anyone know?
