"Please human kind wake up and realize the very real consequences of your each and every action. In today's society it is not that 'can we make a difference'...we do make a difference and therefore it is up to each and every one of us to decide what kind of difference that is going to be."- Julia Butterfly Hill, The Legacy of Luna.

Yesterday was a perfect day to lace up  the hiking boots and grab your day pack. The sky was clear and the temperature had a nice chill to it. You know the  feeling when it is cool enough to awaken your senses and make you feel alive? It looks as though today is going to be a repeat of yesterdays weather. We have been so lucky this spring. It makes me wonder if we are going to get a big snow like they did in 1993. If memory serves me, the winter and spring were mild ones like we are experiencing now.

Nice picture. Makes me want to stop on the way back from Florida and hike up again. I think that would be pushing it. I'll wait til August.

Hi Allyson. Yes, it was April of 1993 that LeConte got the big snow. That was our third year hiking up the mountain and it was our best hike ever. If I remember correctly, there were 13 inches at the top. We could see the snow as we were driving in on I-40. We almost didn't do the hike, but I am so glad that we did.

Hush your mouth! I work for a north Ga E.M.C. and was working when the Blizzard of 93 hit us. 2 weeks of 16 hour days...I was a younger man then, I don't know if I could do it now.

Always wanting to know what I am looking at, where is this taken from, direction and rocky area on the left? I have seen this from aerial views but get turned around with different views.

There was also a big snowstorm in April of '87 when I was crew on LeConte. We got 3 feet of snow, had to heat the water tank with a propane heater so it would not freeze, we had several guests stuck with us for a week (they started cooking for us!). We ended up post holing & stomping down a path on Rainbow to get them out of there. Fun stuff!

My daughter was born on a Friday March 13,1992 so it mustv'e been on a Sat. the 13th 93. Not harrassing, just remembering the day all to well. I wanted to name her Amanda Cruger, instead of Amanda Kelly, well the Kelly won, my husband wouldn't let me name her after Freddie.

A group of us stayed up top at LeConte Lodge last August and are doing the same this August. However, my brother and I can't wait that long and we are hiking up/down Alum one month from today 4/27/12 for a day hike. I can't wait. I hope the weather stays as pretty as it has been the past few weeks. 65 & sunny is much to ask for, right?
