Cool Fall Days

9/29/2014

View from Trillium Trail.
Good morning from our favorite mountain top. We had a nice day yesterday. The high was 58º with a low of 46º.  Ruthie will be on her way down shortly to help out in the office. Yes, it is that time of year when the phone will be ringing off the hook and people will pushing redial like it was a button on their favorite video game. Take a deep breath and keep dialing. You know it will be worth it. We certainly appreciate your time and energy. We love seeing all of the friendly faces at the top of the mountain.

Fall is in the air around here. The weather is wonderful and we are starting to see a little bit of color on the few trees we have that change. I hear there is some color a little lower on the mountain. Won't be long before the leaves start showing off for us.

We are still getting reports of bear activity around the mountain. Please remember, do not leave your personal belongings alone. Pretend you are at an airport and keep them with you at all times. If you are staying at the lodge, keep everything in your cabin. It is that time of year when the bears are wandering around trying to find food and a warm bed for the winter. We don't want them to try out our beds. We just have to make sure they keep moving on.
These sightings have been just that, sightings. The bear gets spooked and runs off into the woods. That is the way we want to keep it.

Any idea when the closure due to bear activity at the leconte shelter will be lifted?

I am not sure when the park service will open the shelter.

Question...
With the closing of the road to get to the Trillium Gap Trail head, how will the Llamas get to the lodge? How can I get to Trillium Gap?
Thank you.

dont know about the lamas but has for hikers, there is about a 1 1/2 to 2 mile connector trail from the rainbow falls trail head.

If your goal is to get to the gap and NOT hike all the way to the top, I'd take the Brushy Mountain Trail out of Greenbrier. The distance to the the GAP that way will be just about 1/4 longer (5.5 v 5.3) and odds are you haven't hiked BM to TG. Not that many have, or at least not frequently. If going all the way to the top, I'd take RF or Bullhead rather that do the connector. There's not much to see on the connector.

Guy, you can us the connector trail from Rainbow Falls trailhead. It will add another 2 miles to your trip. As for the llamas, I believe they are working with the Park Service to continue using Trillium. It will take some logistic work, but think they are still figuring out the details.

Thank you to all for the info. Another question...Do the Llamas run even when it is raining?

Thanks

Unless the bear is confused, it is wandering around, not wondering around. (;-)

Glenn: BE the bear.
I wonder if there is any food under this log? YEP. BUGS!
I wonder if there is any food around the shelter? Nope. Usually is. <Sniff>
I wonder if I should go check out the trash pile? Oh wait, I remember now, there is no trash pile.
I wonder if there are any hot sows around? I sure am hungry.
I wonder of there are bugs under THIS log? Nope. Oops, same log.
To IS in might look like wandering around, but if you really understand the bear, he is clearly wondering around.

Wonderful day or wanderful day?
