The fog makes for a beautiful backdrop to the rhodo around the lodge. I will say, however, it is on its way out. The blossoms have peaked and they are dying off. You know what this means? Time for the coneflowers and bee balm to start budding. It won't be long until we have the chance to witness a wonderful wildflower display. The clouds have kept things cool up here. The high yesterday was 63º. The weather forecast has rain in the picture everyday for the next week. That will keep our temperatures on the cooler side. The low was 55º. Remember to bring layers with you even if you are hiking up for the day. Once you get wet and sit down to rest, you will start to get a chill.

Yep, sorry about all the rain. It must know I'm coming. But of course you've been getting rained upon on for over a month! Just packing, have to put a few more warm clothes in.

Yet another year goes by without my being physically able to hike to the Balds and see the Natural Wonder of the Rhodies in full bloom. I still have the mental picture vividly in my mind though. Can't take that away from me! I so wish they would allow physically disabled people to take atv's out to the Bald nearest Clingmans Dome so we could see the blooms again. The balloon tires wouldn't damage the trail any more than many feet do if driven properly. For some of us, that is our only hope of ever seeing it again.

Morning to all, has anyone been up or down Bullhead in the last few days? Looking for the condition of the trail with all the rain that has been falling over there.

Ryan-La, I hiked Bullhead roundtrip Tuesday, other than being tall weeds near the top it was in good shape. There has been a lot of rain the last two days so I am not sure of the condition now, but I would guess it would be ok.

Just had to cancel a person from our trip up on the 4th of July and they said that had a room to open up if anyone is interested

Thank you, Sonya! I have just upgraded from a maybe f(weather) to a locked in with a room at the top! I am hoping my daughter's soft commitment to hike holds. For now I have two slots and two beds, one for me and one for my daughter. If she cancels, I could squeeze a couple in to the other bed. So I WILL be hiking the 4th, but if the weather is as expected I likely won't see many fireworks. I'll head up Alum and plan to enter the park at 9AM. Breakfast 745AM at the Log Cabin Pancake house up #8, Airport Road/Historic something or other. I'm stoked, but way under-trained.

Just called my kids and told them I could secure a room for the 4th at the lodge, they want to stick to the plan and do the night hike instead.

I was hoping to join those of you that are going to do the night hike around the 4th, but it appears that I cannot alter plans already in effect; I was looking forward to meeting everyone, too. I do hope the weather cooperates - - unless it's a torrential downpour I believe I'd do it if I were able to make it. When I read about the temperatures up on the mountain it really makes me long to be there; I'm not much of a hot weather individual, especially for hiking. And the photos of the fog are always welcome on my screen; a few more of them and I'll organize all the ones I've saved into a scrolling type of screen saver. Good evening all. Comments are closed.
