Good morning from the top of the mountain. It has turned out to be a beautiful day up top. We awoke to cloud coverage and mist, but that has moved on out. The high yesterday was 64º with a low of 45º. The days are starting to feel like autumn weather around here. I keep expecting to see the leaves turning. We are still looking at amazing flowers all around the lodge. The closed purple gentian is showing well on the upper section of Alum Cave trail. This time of year is one of my favorites. The trails clear out a little and the colors fade from bright yellows, purples, pinks, greens, and whites, to orange, yellow, and red. The llamas love this cooler weather. They can start growing their winter coats again.

I love this photo. I remember well these blooming at the upper end of Alum last year. I was completely exhausted by the time I made it that far, (it was my first trip) but these beauties made me stop, look, appreciate and realize it was just one of many beautiful things that made the hike so wonderful.

That is the type of weather I could use right about now. It has been close to the 100 here in south Texas. Plus with that kind of heat there aren't a lot of flowers blooming either. A lot of things are starting to turn yellow.

I too enjoy the flower pictures. It is so nice to see what's blooming when I am not there.
