And that was followed by, guess what, a momentous and beautiful silence / as comes to all of us, in little earfuls, if we're not too hurried to hear it. Mary Oliver

Morning y'all,

It's a blustery, foggy day up top. The high yesterday reached 44 degrees. The overnight low was 31 degrees. It was 44 degrees and foggy at 7am observation. The mountain received no new precipitation and there is no snow on the ground. There is very little ice remaining on the trails. Get out and enjoy the misty trails!

merry Christmas to you and Gracie! Thank you for your post of the mountains! It helps calm the soul when we can not get there as well as our desire when we can!

We got the surprise of our lives last April 7th when we climbed Leconte in a light snow and woke up to more than 5 inches the next day. We would not have opted to climb in these conditions, but it now remains our favorite Leconte visit. I have now seen the mountain decked in winter finery. Lovely.

Sunday 12/25/16 Winter and the days begin to get longer. Being out in the Smokies hiking during this season is really special and makes me wish that I lived, not three hours away, but right by the Park with its boundary just beyond my front door ! That would be ideal. Nonetheless, my love of the Park continues. Good hiking to those who are out there even now !
