Good morning folks,

The winds have calmed which in comparison from yesterday it’s much calmer up top this morning. The high yesterday reached 38 degrees. The overnight low was 28 degrees. It is 37 degrees and socked in this morning. We received 0.03” of precipitation with our snow depth around 2-3”. Warmer weather returns with chances of rain tonight into tomorrow. A High Wind Watch will go in effect later tonight through Friday evening with heavy rain.

It was a good day to stay in rest yesterday. Heavy clouds layered the mountain with misty soaking rain. Winds howled the majority of the afternoon yesterday making it a very chilly day up top. With New Year’s Eve upon us . Saying goodbye to 2020. Hopefully clouds will clear tonight to see the fireworks at the Island in Pigeon Forge. A brand new year and new adventures begin tomorrow. How will you spend your first day of the year? See you at the top!

My husband and I were in Sevierville/Pigeon Forge from Dec. 28 to Jan. 2 with a view of LeConte from our cabin. Every morning, he did a "LeConte Check" to see if it was in clouds or clear. I'm just reading your posts and enjoying the experiences you had. I remember reading a high winds warning on my phone and thinking that the winds didn't seem particularly high but from your perspective, Wow!!! On New Year's Eve we were playing games with the family and setting off our own fireworks bought near I-40 and the exit to Sevierville (for anyone reading, that is the only place to buy them, all other stores in the area don't have the big ones that are like real fireworks).

God bless your stay up there. Just know that there are so many of us looking at LeConte, thinking about how it's going for you up there, dreaming of hiking up again (I'm not sure I could do it all in one day, my husband used to about 10 years ago), and our hearts are turned toward the mountains!
