With the warmer temperatures and the clear skies we saw a significant increase in the numbers of hikers making their way up to the lodge yesterday. The earliest arriving around 7am.  Now that’s an early start.

As for me I spent part of my day exploring, well actually searching, for what I’ve been told is a “Christmas Tree” that legend has, is decorated with hand made wooden ornaments and is tucked away somewhere close but not on the trail somewhere on Boulevard between the Lodge and Myrtle Point.

Now I consider myself quite an accomplished searcher but I have to admit after three tries it doesn’t appear that I’m any closer to finding the elusive legendary tree.

In my efforts though, what I did find was what I considered a natural wonder. It’s my photo of the day. It’s a fallen tree that is sort of suspended with a cluster of spruce trees growing on top of it. Reminded me of a table top Christmas tree but this one was compliments of Mount LeConte.

You know guys Its amazing the things we find when we don’t find what we’re looking for.

Here’s to not always finding what we like but liking what we find.

Hoping to see you up top soon. Take care and stay safe.
Steve

I saw that Christmas tree once between the Lodge Myrtle Point on my first stay at the lodge in October 2015. It was right on the Boulevard Trail at that time. I have never seen it again, and I look for it every time I walk that section of trail. Happy hunting, because I think it is either no longer there or the ornaments were moved! Enjoy winter on the mountain!
