The airlift went off with out a hitch. We still lack a few hours of fly time to today and then we are ready to roll. The t-shirts made it up safely and we will have them ready to sell this weekend. I will put a picture up as soon as I get my inventory done.

Yesterday was a bright, blue sky day. Today is looking to be the same. The current temperature is 43 and rising.

I don't know that you'll agree, but that doesn't seem much like a backcountry experience to me. Looks pretty posh and catered with lots of ameneties-- propane, septic systems, etc... Just glad I wasn't hiking yesterday with a helicopter buzzing around all day.

Roger, I think the backcountry experience is whatever each person makes it and I respect your sentiments. yea, I don't like helicopters buzzing around but there are some people who are able to make it to the top and spend the night BECAUSE of some of the amenities. Not everyone can carry a 20-30# backpack. I used to but am unable to any more. For those people who want solitude and the backcountry there are a lot of places in the park to backpack where you don't see people. For the rest of us...there's LeConte. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...but I seem to recall we had this conversation sometime in the last 2-3 months with a lot of people weighing in. No offense, just stating another point of view.

The news report said it would take 50 trips to complete the airlift. That is amazing! I wish the airlift was spread out over the entire season so we could sit on the cliff tops and watch the helicopter go back and forth. That must be a spectacular sight to witness.

Oh that is impressive! I had no idea. Maybe I could convince those young men to helicopter me to the top. LOL! Frank and I are in Asheville now for the summer and I am walking some steep hills every day. My hip is doing much better and I am planning on hiking Mount LeConte in June.

For anyone who questions the delivery of goods to Leconte, hope this helps justify it. I was blessed to make the journey to LeConte about a year and a half ago. At 55 years of age, I think of that journey almost every day and live vicariously through this blog as often as possible. The hike ranks high on my list of all time favorite experiences. No, I could not carry a heavy pack up that mtn, but I did make it without one and I shall never forget sitting on the point and looking over that breath taking scene. Thanks Allison and all the staff who made that trip an awesome experience for me. Never doubt that your work is a great mission!

Hey Allison, Weare so excited to be coming to Leconte on april 2nd. Hopefully, it will be sunny that day!!! This will be trip #10 for me!!! YAY!!! Look forward to being up there. Anyone who has never been to Leconte cannot relate to the awesome feeling you get when you arrive at the lodge and relax and enjoy the area, and just take it all in. We love it!

Don't know that I've ever thought of LeConte lodge as a backcountry experience. Rustic, yes, but it's just too close to civilization for me to consider it backcountry. That said, I thought it was a terrific experience, and based on the speed with which it fills up each year, there are more than a few others who agree.

Allyson,

Glad to see the airlift went well. Our party of 7 will be coming up the 26th to stay overnight. This will be between the 10th and 15th consecutive year for various members of the group and we look forward to it more every year. Any information you can give as to the condition of Bullhead between now and then would be appreciated. Look forward to seeing you, Chris, and all the members of the crew again.

We were staying in a cabin in Gatlinburg and had the privilege of watching the supply drop from our cabin.

Granted we were several miles away and had to depend on our binoculars, it was still exciting to watch.
