Even snowmen enjoy a little down time.

I forgot to post a this picture yesterday. A guest had decided to make a snowman enjoying the "Leconte rocking chairs". Unfortunately, he is gone this morning.
I can see grass for the first time in almost two weeks. It poured rain most of the night. We received .7" of rain. The high yesterday was 39º with a low of 27º. As you can imagine, this makes for a slippery mess. Until the temperature warms up, things are a bit slick around here. I did have hikers come up Alum yesterday. I believe at the moment Alum and Rainbow are your best options. I have also had experienced hikers come out the Boulevard. It is going to be extremely slow going if you choose the Boulevard trail. That trail is mostly north facing and does not get much sun. There are going to be dangerous sections of ice on this trail. Please do not attempt this trail if you are NOT prepared. I hope with the warmer temperatures moving in, we will see some dandelions before long.

Dreamed about LeConte most of the night, last night. I am bringing up my husband, my 13 yr old daughter, & hopefully my dad (he is only a fair weather hiker) for their first trip next thursday. I guess since we spent most of the weekend beginning to get them prepared, the mtn was heavy on my mind last night. We restocked on good hiking socks, new trekking poles for everyone, Chloe's 1st set ever, gaiters, & several conversations on who was carrying what in their packs. My father is a baptist minister & has been all my life. The first part of this dream, I took him inside the lodge & showed him that old, precious, Bible that sits in front of the window, on the small podium. I could feel the pages as we flipped through, the dream felt so real. The funny part of the dream was when I tried to buy my t-shirt! Suddenly all the shirts were cropped & very loosely flowing. Too feminine for most men's taste I would imagine. Last, @ the end, I was chased through camp by some weird & wild horses. SO, @ this point, I'm blaming the rest of the dream on too much wild turkey & ham @ Easter dinner yesterday!! Can't wait to be there & I have something a little special for the crew!!

Wow back to work this week. Last where was I? Gatlinburg!! Even though it was chilly we Ohioans were prepared for it! Got to hike Abrams Falls and a couple of other short hikes. Would have loved to hike Le Conte but not prepared for all the snow, so we took our advice and others too and stayed in the lowlands! Better safe than soaked and freezing. Warmer temps are on the way!! It was fun to see all the cabins tucked away on the mountainsides. Couldn't believe how many there are. The leaves are always out and hiding 90% of them! Great time visiting as always!!

How are the trails today? We are coming up Wednesday with three kids. Planning on taking Rainbow if nothing else opens up in the meantime.

Chuck-Alum is open, I hiked it today, a beautiful day to be on the mountain. There is still some snow and ice on the upper side. Have a great trip!

Love reading your comments Allison and seeing your pictures daily. Will hopefully be making my 12th trip to Mt. LeConte in October. Will also be hiking this month to see the beautiful wildflowers on several trails. Sure do love these mountains. Will be moving to this wonderful area, hopefully, in a few years and will hike many more miles Thank you for helping me to live , at least , via your pictures and comments in the mountains.
