The wall to the office is getting a face lift. Or should I say wall lift? Our construction crew is working so hard to get the job done quickly. We are excited to give the building some new life. Thank goodness the weather seems to be cooperating. The high yesterday was 64º with a low of 49º. As you can tell from the picture I took this morning, we are looking at blue skies. It is looking like a picture perfect day for a hike. Lace on those boots and come see us. Just don't forget to bring plenty of water for the hike up.
I've thought often on the chronology of construction of the various lodge buildings, i.e., when each was built, etc. If time travel were a possibility, I'd like to go back to see the lodge grounds 100, or perhaps more, years ago. I wonder if there's any history of the Cherokees being around there, too. G'day

doug y, I have no idea of your age, but you keep talking of a knee replacement. I got a new knee Jan. 8th, turned 70 on Feb. 10th and hiked LeConte on July 6th. I was a great trip with no pain!! Just do it and get out enjoying the things you love again. Just some friendly advice from a grandma.

I'm of the opinion that there is definitely Cherokee history there!!! If no physical evidence exists, there is surely a spiritual history!!!

Doug and barrieb....I'm scheduled for BOTH knees being replaced on 8/20. Knew after my trip up LeConte last year I would never make it up again without knee replacements. Already looking forward to a painless trip up LeConte Sept 2015 for my annual stay. Had to let my son take my spot this year and just can't stand the thought of not climbing that mountain until next year. Will be content with everyone else's adventures through this site for now. Know the surgery and weeks of rehab will be worth the ascent to LeConte when it is all behind me over the next several months. So, Doug, as barrieb says...git 'er done!

I made it back to the top yesterday and drug the hubby with me. It was his first time up and felt like it for me, as I took two months off to explore other trails. We made it in 3 hours, which is great for him (being out of shape...he says). He got his tee shirt and was all smiles on the way down. (I however had issues going down due to the loss of a toe nail from going the steep route to thunderhead/rocky top...who knew!?) But when we were done, all was well. It was a sweaty kind of trail (alum) but the weather was great otherwise. LOTS of water, no matter which way you go. too much is not a possibility! Cant wait to come back up. Hopefully next month!

I, too, have had both knees replaced....now hike all the time--here in middle Tennessee or in Smokies. We're now working on 900 Club....with my bionic knees. Comments are closed.
