Fallingggg into Autumn

9/25/2016

Hello down there LeConte lovers! Fall is finally here which means it time for pumpkins, spiced lattes, ciders, and the colorful reds, yellows, and oranges of the leaves. The mountain ash has finally bursted in all its glory up on the mountain. Today for our Sunday dinner Matt made 8 homemade pizzas and they were quite delicious. Everything from pepperoni to supremes. Wooo! As a crew we are looking forward to Halloween and the remaining two months on the mountain. Today we had a rain shower for a couple of hours which was much needed since things have been quite dry. The low last night was 47F with a high of 71F today. We have not seen any cloud inversions down below yet which is characteristic of fall weather.

This quote seems comically appropriate for the season:
"I would rather sit on a pumpkin and have it all to myself than, than be crowded on a velvet cushion" Henry David Thoreau

Happy hiking and looking forward to seeing you when you get up here!

Good quote from Thoreau. I agree. About the largest crowds I can enjoy are those in the Lodge dining hall where I really like the good conversations of similar people. Four weeks and I'll enjoy them again........................

I can stand some crowds but when hiking in the Smokies, particularly up the Alum trail going to the Lodge, I seem to have very little patience no matter how hard I try to. Too many tourists and their thoughtlessly discarded candy wrappers and cigarette butts for me ........................................

i! We have a group of 13 women that will be hiking LeConte and staying the night of Monday, October 3. We were curious as to what if anything the crew might like for us to hike up for them.

One person already has some whole bean coffee. We were told that you guys were good for candy.

What else could you use? Let us know and we'll bring it up with us!

We are staying at the lodge next Wednesday and usually hike alumn cave but as its closed any suggestions on alternate routes. We are study hikers and need the shortest amount of time as we are coming that morning. When friends ask us about Le Conte we tell them it's the best trip in the world! Great staff, views, food and of course bottomless wine.

Is there a limit on the number of hikers in one group on a trail in the Smokies? I know there is in some parks.
