Morning y'all, It's a beautiful, clear morning up top. The high yesterday reached 19 degrees. The overnight low was 3 degrees. It was 13 degrees and clear at 7am observation. The mountain received no new precipitation and there is no snow remaining up top. I went down Bullhead and up Alum with relatively little trouble yesterday. There are a few icy patches, but it is easy enough to dance around if you go without traction. Get out and enjoy this beautiful day!

Well said in your blog Doug Y. I miss the 'guest sightings' also, with the Lodge remaining at 3260'. Used the sunset for wall paper today, but for the other picture, >>>

During the winter months when hikers go to Mt. Leconte, do they hike up and back the same day? Or do they sometimes stay overnight in the outdoor shelter?

shelter is generally open. check park servce site for reservations, only sleeps 12. only water is the spring down from the lodge on trillium gap trail. no services/amenities except the peace and quiet. but, mostly its an up and down the same day, doable if you start by around 7:30 or 8 and you have good weather. went up and down rainbow last year with 8 in of snow, was out well before dark.

JP, is there still an underground spring that used to be used for cooling?
