In youth, before I lose any of my senses, I can remember that I was all alive, and inhabited my body with inexpressible satisfaction; both its weariness and its refreshment were sweet to me. Thoreau

Morning y'all,

It's a beautiful, snowy morning up top. The high yesterday reached 16 degrees. The overnight low was 4 degrees. It was 15 degrees and clear at 7am observation. The mountain received a trace of snow yesterday, the liquid equivalent amounting to .06 inches. There is still 2 inches of snow on the ground. The trails are in good shape, but I would recommend Microspikes if you intend to reach the summit. There are some slick patches and it is slow going with bare boots on the snow. It sounds like it is going to warm up this afternoon, so the trails will have some sloppy melt going on. Get out and enjoy the wintry scenes!

...and when I am old, I plumb the senses remaining to me, and find considerable satisfaction in walking where once I might have run.

Beautiful, beautiful snow. Thanks for the picture JP! Henry Mitchell, well said! I couldn't have expressed it better myself. I've never really been able to run. But now, even in middle age, I find alot of times my pace is down to a "stroll" rather than a walk. So, every "stroll" I make up LeConte brings both a weariness and refreshment that sweetens my soul and my senses. Love the Thoreau quote. Have a beautiful day!

Norman – thank you for asking about Grace in yesterday's comments. I have had the same question all season long. So – – JP , Who is this Grace of whom you frequently speak and sometimes picture? OR-- Grace, who are you?

Kay & Norman,

Grace is my girlfriend and co-caretaker. She's been up here as well this season. She hauls up the water while I blog :)

I suspected long ago that Grace was someone very special to you, UP. It's nice that you have a co-caretaker and companion with you this season on LeConte. May the both of you have many adventures together for many seasons to come! Peace and God Bless to you both.

....JP instead of "UP". I just hate this auto spell feature sometimes! Thought I had proofed it. Ha! Have a beautiful day!
