farewell transmission.

I am grateful for what I am & have. My thanksgiving is perpetual. It is surprising how contented one can be with nothing definite - only a sense of existence. Well anything for variety. I am ready to try this for the next 1,000 years, & exhaust it. How sweet to think of! My extremities well charred, and my intellectual part too, so that there is no danger of worm or rot for a long while. My breath is sweet to me. O how I laugh when I think of my vague indefinite riches. No run on my bank can drain it - for my wealth is not possession but enjoyment. Thoreau
Morning,

It was a very dynamic, rainy day yesterday. The wind was gusting all afternoon and we received some heavy winds and lightning in the evening. The mountain received 1.23" of rain last night. The high was 47 degrees and the low was 27 degrees. It was 27 degrees and clear with some gorgeous inversion this morning.

Allyson will be on the mountain this afternoon and will take over the blog for the season. I will be taking off on Monday to visit family & friends before my new job starts in New Hampshire. Here is the exciting place I'll be working for the Spring.

A big thanks to everyone at the Lodge, especially Tim, Chris & Allyson. I had a fantastic time and am so grateful to have had the opportunity to winter up here.

JP,
Good luck in your new adventure. You did an awesome job with the blog. It was the first thing I would look at every morning. I almost felt like I was up there with you. Hopefully if you return next year you will get the snow that you wanted and maybe even get to meet your elusive friend the bob cat. God Bless!!!

“As the school of the woods was harsh and stern, so it brought up sons and daughters of lion heart. And its reward to those that endured was the most outright independence to be had on earth. No king was so irresponsible as the pioneer, no czar so absolute as he. It needed no martyr spirit in him to sing:
“I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.” Horace Kephart

Enjoyed readng your blog. I looked forward to coming to this site just to read it. If you happen to write a blog at your new job, maybe you, or Allyson could provide the link. Hope you are back at Leconte next winter. Take care.

One final farewell! "Well done good and faithful servent (caretaker)". I have appreciated the journey and look forward to more tales in the future. Your new assignment looks awesome. Living the dream of this desk jockey! You have inspired my brother and I to come down and day hike to the lodge at the end of April in addition to our overnight in August.

If I don't go where I am going, I won't know what I'll soon be knowing.
And I can't find it without moving. So I'm headed where the scene is soothing.....grooving. (R.T.Williams, 1968)
Best of luck J.P. - we'll miss you.

I cannot add anything new to express our appreciation for your photos and comments during your winter stay on LeConte. Previous posts during your tenure reflected that adequately. Hopefully, in future endeavors, you will look back at this experience with positive feelings for the mountain, hikers and readers of the daily posts.

JP, best of luck, have enjoyed reading your posts every day and I envy the solitude you must have experienced up there for the winter.
