Football Saturdays In Tennessee

9/6/2014

Picture
It is a cool, cloudy, rainy day on the mountain. The guests ate their pancakes by the warm glow of oil lamps. I am sure today will be a bit slow. Most folks will be at a game or sitting somewhere rootin' for their favorite team. Yesterday was a busy day around camp. A lot of hikers took advantage of the beautiful day to visit our favorite mountain top. The high yesterday was 69º with a low of 54º. We have had a couple of bear sightings over the past day or so. I have not seen the little guy so I am actually not sure if he is a typical yearling  like we are used to seeing or a bigger bear looking for a home. So, remember, if you are on the trail today, do not leave your pack unattended. Do not leave any personal items unattended. We want this bear to stay wild and continue his hunt for berries and acorns.

Hey Sherleen, it was Tomk in SC that was the poet yesterday, not me! Got the Disney tune out of your head yet? Allyson, the childhood summer memories yesterday was really nice; going to miss you all next year!!

That is a great picture once again. But, no football for me today. I am out and about trying out geocaching.

My wife and I are headed up in the morning, staying two nights. Looking forward to our first stay at the lodge (not our first hike in the Smokies)! Peter

Read the comments nearly every day. People write about all the memories made on LeConte and I have yet to see that anyone remembers the peacock that was up there one summer. Am I crazy or did it really happen? Always wondered how it got there and what happened to it. It must have been 30 years ago. Also remember when you burned the trash and we watched the bear standing on the burning barrel eating while the smoke billowed around his head. Barbeque? Glad I can still get up there even in my 70's.

We hiked up on this football Saturday and it was really nice on the way up. We ate a sack lunch at the lodge and then headed back down. It was pouring down rain all the way back down. We had hiked the Alum trail it was amazing. We wish now we would have hiked to the cliffs. Maybe next time.
