Gloomy Morning

4/15/2011

The winds are blowin'. It is looking like a gloomy day on Mt. LeConte. The guests will be eating breakfast by lamplight. The high yesterday was 56. It was a nice day for a hike. Today on the other hand, is not looking to promising. The good thing about weather like this, when you get to the top, there is a nice hot cup of hot cocoa waiting on you.

Morning all up top, down here in LA its 74 degrees, sunshine with a cool breeze out of the south. I would still rather be sitting by that lantern. Have a great day

And what a delicious cup of hot cocoa it is! Our trip to LeConte Lodge Wednesday was wonderful--blessed to have two beautiful days of hiking. Thank you Allyson and crew for a nice stay. Meals were delicious. Chrissy, you bring sunshine to LeConte with your smiling face and sweet personality! Hope you all have a terrific season!

Happy Birthday Juanita.

The weather is on it's way, and I have to agree with Joyce, the cocoa is truly wonderful up there and so is the coffee.

I've never really considered the lodge to be a gloomy place, but the weather can certainly vary rapidly there; that's its appeal for me; I agree that sitting by a lantern in the dining hall or other buildings has tremendous therapeudic effects on my disposition; I've got to get this knee in better shape and get to hiking up; I wonder if I could parachute in !?

Oh thank you everyone for the birthday wishes. Pam I not only have a new hip, but I've had a double knee replacement, cataract surgery on both eyes, an angioplasty with three stents, a significant amount of bridgework, and a complete hysterectomy. I'm virtually a bionic woman! Just had my annual check-up and my doctor said if I'm not careful, I may live to be an old woman. LOL. If 73 isn't already old, I don't know what is.

Happy Birthday Juanita! I hope to have humor like you when I reach 73! Right now I tell people I'm 39.95,plus shipping & handling. Life is more fun with humor,... & hiking,.. & hot chocolate by candlelight,...on top of LeConte,... watching the rising sun peek thru pinkish cloudes,...& hear nature waking up....& then go get another cup of hot cocoa because the morning just got more relaxing. Ahhh...Mt.LeConte...wish I was there.

Hang onto your hats (and everything else too) folks on top. Looks like a hell-uh-va storm is rolling your way quick. (probably get to LeConte around 4pm)

Happy birthday Juanita! You're the biggest celebrity since Alex on this site! I hope I can meet you when you make your hike in June.

Batten down the hatches overnight gang. Looks like the rough stuff coming in after midnight and before dawn.

Keep a lookout today for my friend Diana who's making her first hike up with large annually returning group. Been telling her how much she's going to enjoy the whole experience and how delightful the crew always is! Now I'm just hoping she doesn't blow off the trail!

Looking forward to seeing you soon myself!

Happy Birthday Juanita. Best wishes for many more. You will have to let everyone know when you are headed to leConte. You may have a welcoming party to greet you at the trail head.
Wind is really rough in Wears Valley. Better tie an anchor around yourself up top. Have a safe night up there everyone.
