Beauty as we feel it is something indescribable: what it is or what it means can never be said. Santayana
_Morning,

It's finally starting to feel like winter up here, the high yesterday only reached 34 degrees. The overnight low was 23 degrees and it was 31 degrees and clear at 7am observation. The mountain still has some slick spots after yesterday's patchy snow. It would be wise to pack some kind of traction devices, although you could get away without having them by using caution.

_It looks like it will be a clear, beautiful day. The light snow that has accumulated on the trees up top is mesmerizing. I was losing myself all afternoon as I watched the sun play in the pines. It is a study of constant renewal. I can't wait to see more... hopefully on Thursday. This little taste of snow has me yearning for more more more. I want the mountain to get pummelled.

This is for Rainbow who hiked with Mamaw B.: When are you planning to summit Mount Katahdin and finish your hike?

JP,
Looks like you will have a little winter weather Thursday night. Will you be on the Mountain on the days directly after Christmas?

Tony Ga - I will try. My son and his girl are flying to Florida tonight for a few days and am really jealous at the moment. I think its suppose to be 80 down there in Fort Meyers tommorow and were getting big snow. I parked my car in the garage backwards tonight so I can get a running start at our long driveway, so I can get out in the morning. Its suppose to continue and be worse with high winds Friday.

5:30am. Very windy up here in Pigeon Forge looking at Mount Laconte. Supposed to have 60mph winds all day. Very scarey!

Jackie, how odd. I am in the other end of Sevier County - just came in from a four mile run and it was as calm as I have ever felt it here. The calm before the storm, I guess.

Here in Indiana it is windy, rainy and cold. We're supposed to get some dusting of the big storm Debi is talking about in Michigan. Too far south to get much more. Wish it were more than a dusting...nothing like snow on Christmas morning!

JP,

I been looking up your way since first daylight. 7 miles to the north of LeConte. All i can see now is Brushy Mtn. We lost power about 8 AM. straight winds here in excess of 60 mph. Blew steel toolbox &!heavy wood chairs aross a deck that faces the wind.

SO you must be seeing the mother of all winds at 6600!!!

Eager to hear your WX report. Thanks for your faithfulness!

Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens.
