I hope you aren't tired of flower pictures yet. This time of the year, the mountain is exploding in color. I saw my first grass- of -parnassus the other day. I love these flowers. It is a bit early for them to be blooming already. This heat has confused every living thing. I am really confused as well, it is nice and hot during the day and the lows at night are in the low 40s. We hit 43 last night. Don't forget to bring a jacket if you are hiking up in the near future. There is definitely a chill in the air.

This is my second favorite flower on the mountain, following behind sand myrtle.

We hiked up last Monday, July 23rd and had a wonderful time. It was wonderful speaking to other hikers and the staff as well. The best thing was not having to worry about what time it is and just enjoying nature and conversations. Thank you to the staff! We enjoyed ourselves once again and Jenna was tickled to ring the breakfast bell. Thank you to Chrissy and Jonathan as well!

Hello Allyson: I doubt there's anyone who gets tired of your photos of flowers, I know I don't. I cannot remember if I've ever been to the lodge this time of year, so I must try to sometime, if only to see those blooms. Susan said it quite well: when you're at the lodge you don't really have to worry about the time. Yes, things have been rather confusing this summer with all the heat and humidity; my grass is returning, but it's a different variety somehow; Still, it'll be mowing timie this week. The Grass of Parnasis bloom is one of the prettiest to me, too. thanks and have a good week.

thanks for these daily posts. I try to pull these up every day and peek in on what is happening on the mountain. We were there in April (our first visit), and I can still see the stars in my memories. ahhhhhhh

Hiked up yesterday from Alum Bluff Trail - not knowing anything except one of the locals told us this was his favorite so of course we jumped right it. Wow-being from the flat coast of Texas and this being our first real hike-this was amazing! Between the beauty, other hikers, this made our vacation. Even took a pic at the dinning hall with the date and elevation. Thanks for being there!

Every year my husband and I climb LeConte in August to see the Grass-of-Parnassus, our favorite wildflower. For the last two years we missed it: we were either too early or too late. But this year we hit it just right, on August 29. We have never seen such a lavish display! It was a gray foggy day, and the grassy slopes looked like constellations of stars. Breathtaking!
