It was a cold day yesterday. The high was around 22º. It did warm up over night. The recorded low was 14º, but that was from our 24 hours records. It actually warmed up to the mid 20s over night. Our electronic thermometer reads the temperatures for a 24 hour period. There may be icy spots on the trails, but I think you will be fine hiking without any type of traction device. The icy sections will be around the springs. Once again, please remember to bring the proper layers with you. You will need hats, gloves, and plenty of layers to keep warm.

We planned a day hike with 7 meals awaiting us today. Due to a family tragedy to one of our girls , we cannot come. We will try for a day hike next Saturday. We sure will miss it today. Sure wish we could transfer those meals for next Saturday. oh well.

the collection of pictures for this week are fantastic. Allyson, have you ever thought about putting each season's pics on cd and selling them as screen savers. I know you can buy one at visitors center of various other places from the park. Mostly places you can take a pic from car window. NOTHING like the pics from your vantage point. Put me down for one if you do.

I have a question: have any of the hikers even mentioned seeing a deer with 1 eye only? I was coming down Bullhead today when I saw this the one-eyed deer in the middle of the path. He did not run away, in fact he kept on coming closer. The eye-less socket seemed completely healed, with fur growing in it. Such an odd and beautiful encounter at the same time! He had a pretty good sized pair of antlers on him, so I was on the defensive, but he seemed very comfortable around humans.

I read your blog daily and I love it. I especially like looking at the pictures you post. When does the season end and who will be the caretaker this winter? I really enjoyed the guy who did it last year, he was very interesting and definitely had a unique way with words.

That would be our John Paul Krol (JP). I believe this will be his third year as the winter caretaker. Hope he brings the muses with him.
