What a great day for an airlift. We ate breakfast and started work immediately. We flew from 7:30 in the morning until 6 at night. A large portion of the supplies made it up the mountain. We still need the clouds to move out this morning so we can finish with the propane. The temperatures were in the 40s all day yesterday. Last nights low dropped down to 20 and it is currently 30 degrees, cloudy, and extremely windy.

Great pictures. Perhaps I need to get out more, but I have never seen helicopter rotor blades flex like that. Great angle. The other element covered today was where the loads are actually landed. I was wondering how far things needed to be hauled. Looks like your pilots can drop the load on a postage stamp!

Let there be no doubt, that helicopter had a serious amount of weight on it! I'm sure they were within specs, but probably dang near maxed out.

I was on my way to work yesterday morning and as I was heading toward Gatlinburg on the Parkway in Pigeon Forge, I saw the helicopters making the drop then finally heading back toward New Found Gap. It was an amazing site to view.

I'm certainly no expert on the subject, but it appears to be a Sikorsky S61. I live near a heli-airlift company (Carson Helicopters) that used these for many years.
