Happy Birthday to My Amazing Husband

5/7/2011

Picture
Chrissy has discovered she loves churning ice cream.
Today is starting out to be a great day. The sun is out and it appears to be warming up.  The clouds cleared away yesterday and left us with 44 degree temperatures. The low last night was 33.

Today is my husbands birthday. Chrissy helped me churn ice cream to go with his cake. It is the simple things on the mountain that make the crew happy. Home made ice cream is one of them.

I've been keeping up with your posts since about October 2010. Kelly and I are hiking to Leconte on Monday, the 9th and staying for two nights. That's her birthday! No better way to celebrate than in the Smokies. See you soon. Paula

Happy Belated Birthday to your hubby. Spent night there on 05/01/11. Enjoy our stay . Was very nice to meet you we were the couple from Eastgate Area. Was nice to see a home bread person up there. Food was excellent and views were great!

Where did you get the ice, to help make the ice cream? Coming up there is still on my bucket list.

Allyson,
As I look at your picture a couple of questions come to mind.
1) How much weight have you lost? You look fantastic! When I first heard you talking about marathons, both you and Chris, I was sort of wondering how that was going to work out. By the picture it would seem it worked out just fine! Haven't seen a shot of Chris, but I'm guessing he has gone through a similar transformation. Congratulations to both of you, you are both amazing!
2) You mentioned running at the top of LeConte. What is your route? With footing what it is, I'm thinking it is hard to find spots where you can stretch out at speed without risking a turned ankle. The best I can come up with might be from Corner Ledge on Alum Cave (Where the cables and hard left are) up to High Top and perhaps a route to Cliff Tops from around the shelter. Beyond that, I can't guess where you might run.

The last time I saw you run, you were not built for distance, but you didn't hesitate to blast out of the dining hall and up the stairs chasing a bear! I dropped in behind you, and was amazed at how fast you pursued. That was the night after 505 was darted and tagged in August 2009.

Now, about that ice. . .

:)

For all you wondering about ice. We have limited freezer space on the mountain. I have to plan for ice cream a few days in advance and freeze enough water to make it. It is a well planned treat when we do get it.

@tomk- The girl in the photo is Chrissy.
As for the route we use for training, you are correct. The flat section up to high top is a good one. Chris ran Boulevard last year while training for his full marathon. As for being "built for distance", I guess it is all in the mind. If my legs will take me there, I will go. :)

Chad, is Chrissy really your wife or did you just say that because the caption read "My Amazing Husband"?
