The crew was putting the day to bed. It was time to chill out and enjoy the last of the cold October evenings. Dave decided to leave the warmth of the kitchen to make his way to his room at the bottom of camp. As he was making his way down the rocky path, he thought he heard something. He thought, "it is just one of the many guests we have in camp this evening." He continued his commute home and heard the noise again. He knew he was close to his cabin, he would go inside and not worry about it. He reached the bottom of the path and went for the door knob. He did not expect to find.......
A BIG BEAR standing in his path!!!!!! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! We don't have ghosts on the mountain, but we have other things that go bump in the night. Before you get worried and say you are never visiting LeConte again, the rest of the story goes something like this... Dave screamed and picked up a rock and threw it at the bear. The bear got scared and turned around and ran. I think Dave scared the bear more then the bear scared Dave.

Beware of the Three Toed Squisher! That could have been what Dave heard.

That looks like the eyes of a vicious Nauga. People used to trap them and make Naugahyde from them.

That reminds of a night back in '93 when I was on crew up there. My cabin was "cabin 3", which to many people looked like it was an outhouse due to its size. One night while I was peacefully sleeping I heard my cabin door open, I rolled over to kindly inform whom ever it was that had wondered down to the "outhouse" that they were in the wrong location, when I opened my eyes it was not a bare tush that I saw but rather a bear tush. Momma bear was digging through the bushes outside the door and had rear-ended my door hard enough to knock it open even though I had locked the deadbolt. Comments are closed.
