Happy Labor Day Weekend

9/2/2011

Picture
A lone cone flower hanging on. Summer is coming to an end. Labor day weekend is upon us and brings cooler weather with it. Fall is definitely in the air up top. The highs are still in the low 60's and the lows are in the mid 40's to high 50's. I hope everyone has a great weekend. We are anticipating a lot of hikers visiting the top this weekend.

The downside about visiting the lodge is that eventually we have to leave. What a place.

Two questions/issues:
1) The LeConteLodge website correctly shows the lodge elevation at 6360', but the sign on the Dining Hall implies the Lodge is at 6593'. Shouldn't the sign be changed?

2) A few weeks ago the claim was made that a ranger had hiked all the trails to LeConte Lodge. I inquired about Brushy Mountain, the sixth trail, and it was confirmed that he had hiked the Brushy Mountain trail and thus had hiked all six trails. On both HOL and LL websites, there is no reference to the Brushy Mountain trail. How about giving Brushy Mountain its due recognition? It is the longest trail and has its own character.

Tom,
I think the elevation has always been in reference to the peak of Mt. LeConte. I know that may be a bit confusing. As for the reference to Brushy, it is a longer and tougher trail. It is also not a maintained trail. It is best to leave that trail to those that are extremely familiar with the hike to LeConte and are physically capable of making the climb.

Thank you for your continual posts. I like keeping up with what's going on up there on a daily basis. I hope that if you ever have to step down, there is someone ready to take your place.

Allyson
You purchased a new olympus xz-1 camera. Did you make that purchase locally or mail order? Would you make the same decision now, since you have had time to use it? Your pics look great on the web site.
Thanks for the info.

Great pics as always Allyson. Will be coming up sunday on the "Ed Wright Memorial Hike", hope to have time to say "hey".
Anyone that will be in the area we are going to meet at Alum Cave Trail to leave about 7:00am. Hope to meet some fellow bloggers. Have a great week-end everybody. Happy hiking.

We will be coming up for a day hike on Sunday! Counting the hours! It's been a year since our first weekend visit and cannot wait to introduce our friends to this wonderful place.
