Happy Retirement Henry

11/20/2010

Picture
After 15 seasons, Henry Neel has decided it is time to retire. Henry has been the Assistant Manager for many of those years. He feels that it is time to get out and play while he has some play left in him. I am sure Henry will not be a stranger. I have a feeling we will see him on quite a few occasions up top.
So I will say "Here's to you, Sergeant First Class Neel. The mountain will miss you."

As for the weather. The high yesterday was 43 with a low of 28. Another beautiful day up top. The snow is slowly disappearing. It looks like we might have an uneventful close to the season. That is just the way I like it.

So happy for Henry but sorry for y'all and for those of us who have come to know Henry over the years. Best wishes for the next step in life. Enjoy.

Except for the few times he was on active duty, Henry has been on top o' the mountain almost as long as I've been climbing it.

We, flat-landers, will truly miss seeing you, but wish you the best in your next endeavor.

Best Wishes!

Here's to one of the few East Tennesseans who knows where Bozo's Barbecue is! Henry, enjoy your retirement... we'll miss you!

Happy Trails Henry, will miss seeing you on the mountain or we will be lucky enough to see you on our hike up or down. Happy retirement. Enjoy.

Henry, sorry we will miss you on our next trip up but after all these years of service both for your country and us LeConte hikers you deserve some time to chill out and enjoy life at your leisure and pleasure. It has been nice knowing you and seeing you whenever I was up there in September. Best wishes for a good retirement. Will pass along your retirement news to Darcy although when she was up taking my spot in September she said she heard you were retiring from the mountain. I know she enjoyed working with you in '96 when she was on crew and she would add her best wishes for a long and enjoyable retirement from the mountain. Take care and know we'll be thinking of you.
You are leaving some BIG shoes to fill.

The mountain will not be the same without Henry.

Time to write a book Henry. You must have a ton of stories. I know we would all buy a copy.

Good luck.

Hi Henry,

I can’t believe it!
I’ve always looked forward to seeing you on the mountain, come to expect it, like going to Myrtle Point or Cliff Top, like watching the sunrise or sunset!
You’ve been up there almost as long as I have been climbing LeConte.
You will be missed greatly, what can I say.
It’s been a great pleasure knowing you.
Hope to see you at airlift, you could do more watching than working, but you probably would do just as much work.
HAPPY TRAILS

Henry I wish you all the BEST.. Your first year on top of the Mountain was the year I was working there. I remember you fondly, you are so kind and such a hard worker as a young lady (at that time) I truly learned a lot from you. Thank you for your years of service in the Military and for making the Mountain such a fond memory for me.

Henry and I spent a year in Iraq together. Over Christmas of 2005, when we got back, Henry was the winter care taker. My wife and I hiked up to the lodge in over a foot or more of snow. We spent several days with him, enjoying each others company. This is one of my greatest memories now. I'm currently on my second trip overseas, and I look forward to getting home to East TN and enjoying the beloved mountains again. Thanks Henry.
