Holding On To The Sunshine

7/31/2013

It is a dreary day at the lodge. I just couldn't bring myself to take a picture of the rain, so you are getting another view from Myrtle Point. I have the last two days still fresh in my mind. They have been amazing. The high yesterday was 65º with a low of 50º. The temperature has felt like a  crisp autumn day. It is hard to believe that August is knocking on our door. The kids are still playing hide and seek around camp. It is always a strange sensation when you realize summer vacations are over and the kids are only hiking up during the weekends. The crew loves watching the kids discover the magic of Mt. LeConte. It will turn any child into a lover of the outdoors.

Let me be the first to say morning to all up top. Allyson, I will still trade you a nice sunny day down here for a all day rain there. What do you think all the rain this season will do to the fall colors? Will they be early or late?

Has anyone been to "Sperry Chalet" in Glacier National Park (Montana)? I have become a big fan of the show "Motion" on Live Well Network. They went to this lodge that is very similar to our beloved LeConte Lodge. http://www.sperrychalet.com/
Any of the well traveled readers had the opportunity to go there? I noticed that their season this year is only 2 months long!

We have been to Granite Park Chalet, the sister property to Sperry. Like LeConte Lodge, it is very difficult to get a reservation. We were only able to pack a lunch and day hike there. The scenery at Glacier National Park is spectacular. It's a hikers' paradise.

I think Tim and Lisa Line went to one of the lodges in Glacier a few years ago. If he doesn't read this maybe Allison will ask him for some input.

Speaking of rain, we're sick of if down here in the level lands of Johnson City because we have to cut grass every few days. Curious to know if you guys have any grass to mow and if so, how often?

We finally got some of the much needed rain you all are talking about. A dreary day here in Central Indiana but don't mind as it gives me a break from working in my flowers pulling weeds. Enjoy the pics and comments on this site. Another month and I'll be one of those hikers up to LeConte!

I hear ya Mariyn. haven't cut grass in over 2 weeks now. Have got rain over the past 5 days on and off and it has cooled off. So probably will need to cut this weekend. Beautiful pic today!

I've been in several of the National Parks out west, including Glacier, and they're all very beautiful, but I've never spent a great deal of time in any particular one; sure would like to return to a few of them one of these days. I'm always interested to read about others' experiences out there. It's been a nice gentle and steady rainfall here today and I can only imagine the conditions up on Mt. Leconte. I especially have enjoyed the cool(er) temperatures and not having to mow my grass, but that will come quite soon. Good evening.
