To finish the moment, to find the journey's end in every step of the road, to live the greatest number of good hours, is wisdom. Emerson
_Morning,

The high yesterday reached a mere 13 degrees. The overnight low dropped to 6 degrees and it was 9 degrees and clear at 7am observation. The mountain received no new precipitation, but there is still about 2 inches of snow up top.

I hiked a little ways down Rainbow Falls trail yesterday. The trail was in better shape than I was expecting. There is some ice that requires caution, but you can get by without using traction devices. There was enough snow on the ice to have some kind of purchase as you make your way up the mountain. Be sure to pack extra layers, it's very cold. It looks like it will be a gorgeous day, with temperatures increasing, some clear skies in the forecast and wind driven snow blanketing the trees. Happy hiking!

I too am like JW, I have stayed overnight 5 times since Oct. 2011. That place is one of the most addictive ever. There is just something about it. Makes no difference if you are in a shroud of mist or basking in the sunshine or the pouring rain. No matter the conditions, you just have to come back for more. Hopefully, my boys and I will get to come up in Feb. to stay in shelter.

Hey, I thought that you may enjoy a song my wife and I wrote a few years ago...It is called "Snowy Smoky Mountain" and I like to play it every year about this time and thought you may enjoy it way up there on that snowy smoky mountain...stay warm and Merry Christmas! The song is located on reverb nation under the name Cottonport 202. The link is http://www.reverbnation.com/cottonport202

Very nice! I can visualize sitting at Myrtle Point with soft white flakes floating down while I gaze over the snow covered moutains as far as my eyes can take me.

It seems like the winter season had came to an end in Le conte. Good to hear that the signs of spring season had started, I think the increase in temperature and rainbows show it. Thanks for sharing the latest pictures of Le Conte.
