The poetry of the earth is never dead. ~John Keats
The ending to a picture perfect day. The high was 50 followed by a low of 28. The sky was clear and blue all day long. It was a great day to finally get out of camp and check out the color in the lower elevations, but you will have to check back for those photos. The lower elevations are exploding in color. I guess that explains why I have heard stories of two hour rides from Newfound Gap road to the visitor center. This is the time of year I am happy to be on the mountain and not have to depend on my car.

Every day is a beautiful day on the mountains. Clear nights are stunning too, especially forecasted this weekend...be sure to watch the Orionid Meteor Shower before dawn Saturday and Sunday. Look high in the sky to the southeast between midnight and dawn.

Thanks for another ohhhh ahhhh pic! And a big thanks to the crew for their hospitality during our stay at LeConte. Great to see Chris, Allyson, and later Tim during our hike down Alum...hey, Allyson...the profile I mentioned of a face at the bluff is mentioned/shown in Glady's Trentham Russell's book, "Call Me Hillbilly."

Fantastic photo today ! I think of all the photos that have ever been taken, all the poetry that has been written, all the music that has been composed, and all the literature that has been written and wish sometimes that I had more time on this earth to study it all. Then I contemplate all the photos, poetry, music, and literature that is yet to be created and it's a humbling thought ! The important thing is to make the most of what we have and what we are trusted with. I don't know who said it, but for me it's certainly appropriate: "Get busy living or get busy dying." Have a wonderful day !

Doug is right. Tim Robbins said it to Morgan Freeman.

I don't think there's ever been a bad picture taken on LeConte. My daughter Syd was a finalist in the 4H photo contest with 2 pics taken on the Mtn. One was from Cliff Tops & the other was of the front of the dining room with the plywood nailed up with the closed sign in the snow. They are beautiful. And speaking of beautiful, Allyson loved your sunrise picture on the front page of the Mtn Press today.

Thanks Cassie. That refreshed my memory. Great movie, too. Allyson, your photos are always good and inspire me to write, along with my own memories and experiences in the Park, especially at the lodge. I have a narrative for each of the trails leading to the lodge, although one of them I've been on only once or twice. Alum, Rainbow, Trillium, Bullhead, and Boulevard I know well. Like Debi, I wish I was there ! Every day I wish I was there ! I have a feeling that those who want snow when they come up may just get it. I always enjoy a trek in the stuff, too. Have a great day !

As I write this I am back home but wishing I was still on the mountain. My husband and I made the hike up Alum trail on 10-17-12. Spent the night at the lodge. Boy were we trilled. Not one complaint. The food was out of this world( starving after the climb up) . The views no words or pictures can give justice to. It was very windy that night but we were warm and safe in our cabin. Next morning we were in a cloud which only gave a different experience to be had. Awaiting our next time... Comments are closed.
