It is September 19th and there is a thin layer of ice on the back porch. The current temperature is 30º outside. The high yesterday was 55º with another 2.45" of rain over the last twenty four hours. I guess the cold front has made its way to the mountain. We had an amazing sunrise this morning. The inversion was a special treat. I am sorry those of you in Sevier county are still socked it, but it sure is beautiful up here.

From the SMNP web site, "Dogs are allowed in campgrounds, picnic areas, and along roads, but must be kept on a leash at all times. The leash must not exceed 6 feet in length. Dogs are only allowed on two short walking paths—the Gatlinburg Trail and the Oconaluftee River Trail. Pets are not allowed on any other park trails."

@Tony: If the weather is forecast clear, launch at the crack of dawn and add in a side trip to Charlies Bunion, The Jumpoff, or both. Charlies Bunion is a longer detour but provides an awesome view. The Jumpoff is fantastic as well. If you haven't been to Myrtle Point, take a breather there. Start down around 4PM or earlier. Sunset around 715PM.

Hiked Charlies Bunion last year. There was still snow on the trail when we went...it was a good day. Plan to detour to the Jump Off Point. Thanks for the info.

My sons and I did in boulevard and down alum in june in the rain and fog. Guess I will have to go on it again because there was not much of a view. I really enjoyed the trail though.
