Our favorite AT hiker wandered 5 miles off the trail to come and visit us. Bethany, 2013 crew member, stopped by to ring the dinner bell. She then decided today was a great day to take a "0" day, which means she is not going to hike today. Not a bad idea considering our current weather conditions. We received 1.58" of rain over night and it is still coming down. The high yesterday was 46º with a low of 38º. It has been incredibly windy up top. As for the ice and snow, it is gone. You will not need any type of traction device to come up the trails. You will, however, need a raincoat and pants. It is going to be a wet day on the trail.
I got to ring that bell once. It's a heavy thing, too ! I know it's only my imagination arising from my continuous desire to stay up at the lodge, but sometimes I can hear it ringing up here in central KY ! And sometimes around 6:00p as well ! Good luck to Bethany on her northward journey !

I just wanted to thank the crew for an unbelievable stay this past Saturday. Very kind and inviting group of men and women. I haven't seen very many comments on the excellent food that is served. I have never been so excited to receive such a delicious supper and breakfast. The very comfortable beds deserve a standing ovation as well. This was my first stay at the lodge and I can easily say I am a fan for life. If the lottery works in my favor, I will be an annual guest.

Hey Allyson, does Bethany have a trail name and is she using the trailjournals to document and keep us posted on her journey? Hopefully can get away in a month or so to come visit our beloved mountain. Stay dry and HAPPY TRAILS. Comments are closed.
