It Was Great While It Lasted

10/26/2012

I little different picture this morning. The clouds have moved in, threatening rain. Some one said something about cold weather moving in this next week. It could be a snowy day on the mountain for Halloween. As for the difference in temperature that was reported the other night, I am not sure what is going on. We use a thermometer from NOAA. It records the highs and lows for each 24 hour cycle. Speaking of, the high yesterday was 60 with a low of 44. Chris and I went for a run yesterday. We were commenting on the fact that the temperatures were outstanding for the last full week in October. It has been the perfect weather. The crew has been out and about trying to soak up the last of this amazing weather. We all know that cold and snow is lurking just around the bend.

I'm no weather forecaster, but from what I'm seeing on several of the major networks, that hurricane coming up the east coast is predicted to turn toward the New York area and predicted to meet up with a big cold front sweeping down from Canada which could result in an unprecedented storm according to some weatherpersons. Some are calling it "Frankenstorm". So there could well be snow on Leconte soon. The next week or so might be very intertesting.

As much as I hate to say it, my girls are begging for snow since we are hiking up on Halloween. See you guys Wednesday.

Also, since we are headed up on Halloween, what type of candy does everyone like up top?

Our family will see you next Friday (11 of us) and the 20 somethings are begging for the trails to be snow covered. They just may get their wish. See you then.

Just arrived home in Indiana after a week soaking up the Smokies. Didn't make it to LeConte this time but sure enjoyed the great weather and particularly the color. Camped in Elkmont and did several hikes from the campground. It was a weather perfect week celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary. We check out your blog every day. Thanks for the great pics and mountain updates.

The strong cold front has pushed through the Cumberland mountains here in south east KY, the temps are crashing, i can only imagine the cold that will soon be hitting the mountain.

My sweet wife and I hiked up to the lodge last Saturday and were on the trail at this very time last week. The weather was great and we enjoyed the treat of being able to purchase hot coffee at the lodge to enjoy with our Zone bars. We both turned 60 this year and were so happy to enjoy this wonderful adventure while celebrating our 6 decades of life.
