Every little pine needle expanded and swelled with sympathy and befriended me. Thoreau

Morning y'all,

It's a beautiful, snowy morning up top! The high yesterday reached 36 degrees. The overnight low was 23 degrees. The mountain received .52" of rain, mostly coming overnight. If the temperature had dropped earlier, we would've had ourselves quite the snow storm. The mountain received an inch of snow and there is an inch on the ground. As of this posting, the Park Service has closed 441 due to ice and snow. They are doing their best to open it up as soon as possible! I'd expect the trails to be a bit slick with a little bit of black ice, so be sure to pack traction if you intend to safely ascend and descend this most glorious of mountains. Get out and enjoy the day!

Leconte blanketed in snow, a sight I will never see. Thanks for taking me there, JP. Pure beauty.

The photo of the Lodge covered with snow reminds me of camping at the Elkmont campground in the winter. I commented on this on my own site. Sadly, this campground closes now during the winter season.

That is a lovely, lovely little quote this morning! One I will surely make note of. Happy you're getting your snow, JP! Would love to see it! Blue bird kind of day here, little to no wind. I've been thinking about driving over to my favorite "rock" today and doing some "boulder hopping". Leconte still remains my favorite mountain. Have a beautiful day!

Hey Doug Y. Your post today reminded me of camping I also did in years past. Winter was my favorite time to camp. Very, very few others are out and about. Getting on the trail at first light is just incredible. I loved rambling about making the first footprints of the day.
Due to health issues I have had to settle for short walks and no camping in winter. I miss those days terribly. Oh well, that's life.
Best regards.

Enjoyed your read also, Doug! There have been very few days in my life where I awoke to see a beautiful thick blanket of snow on the ground. But, if I get my little piece of paradise near the park, like I hope too, surely that will be a sight I will get to experience more often in the coming years.
