I believe you are latent with unseen existences, you are so dear to me. Whitman

Morning y'all,

It's a beautiful, cold morning up top. The high yesterday reached 20 degrees. The overnight low was 3 degrees. It was 8 degrees and clear at 7am observation. The mountain received the liquid equivalent of .04 inches of snow. There is still a trace of snow on the ground and the trails are sure to be a bit slick. I would definitely recommend Microspikes if you intend to reach the summit. Get out and enjoy this beautiful day!

The blog will be on a little hiatus. I am rambling off to snowier mountains and the blog will return on Wednesday the 20th. See the following links for weather information...

Patience Norman. It is very strange that the years of our lives teach us patience; the shorter our time remaining, the greater our capacity for waiting.

Be strong, Norman, be strong! Maybe we can visit amongst ourselves about Leconte for the next week. Haha! (I'm ducking!) Those links for weather we're excellent in letting me know what we were about to get ourselves into on our hike up in October, especially NOAA. Hope you have a pleasant trip, JP!

JP-- safe travels!!!
Norman and Tammy... we can all make it a "best of " week and we can revisit JP's posts from past years. They aren't re-runs... they're classic episodes!

Elktonbrant, I've only been keeping up with the Leconte blog for a little over a year now, but am not a newbie to the mountain or the area; visiting many times during the past 37 years.

So, all you long time regulars who have been posting comments here go ahead and start the "best of" week. I will just enjoy reading your posts. But, somehow I missed that JP had cracked some ribs last winter.

I hit send by accident searching the archives. JP's first year as the winter caretaker was 2011-12 (starting November 2011) and from the start we were able to see his insights and intellectual curiosities come through the blog. Like this past summer, some negativity invaded the winter board on a couple of occasions and JP limited his posts to just basic information. I sincerely hope we can keep that from happening this winter (assuming it ever snows).

Sorry you're having to leave to find those snowy conditions you crave. Blame it on Ole El Nino. Still waiting for our first snow in WNC. Safe travels.

You may have left too early. Looks like the big dump is heading this way for Thurs.Sat!
